RiverHawks Add a Pair of Left-Handers for 2013

LOVES PARK, Ill. - The RiverHawks have added left-handed pitchers Nick Cicio and Darrin Tew from Southern Illinois to complete an August 10 trade that sent outfielder Javier Herrera to the Miners.
"I think this is a really good move for us," said Manager Rich Austin. "It adds quality arms with championship experience and we look forward to having them on our staff for 2013."
Cicio started the 2012 season in Washington, pitched in 22 games for the Wild Things and had an ERA of 4.25.
With the Miners, Cicio saw action in 10 games out of the bullpen, had an ERA of 0.71 and a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 12:1.
In two professional seasons, Cicio has a combined ERA of 2.71, has allowed an average of just two walks per nine innings, averaged nearly nine strikeouts per nine innings and amassed a strikeout-to-walk ratio of nearly 4.5:1.
Tew has spent each of his first two seasons in professional baseball with the Southern Illinois Miners. Mostly a bullpen arm, Tew has started nine of the 43 games he has appeared in.
In 2012, Tew appeared in 23 games and recorded a 4.62 ERA, more than a full point improvement from his rookie season in 2011. Tew has a two-year walks-per-nine average of 3.2 and a strikeout-to-walk ratio of just under 2:1.
