Lake Erie Crushers News Release
AVON, Ohio --The Lake Erie Crushers will open the 2013 season with a new manager. Managing partner Steven Edelson is pleased to announce Jeff Isom, a familiar face to the Frontier League as the new manager of the Crushers.
Isom, who spent the last six seasons managing in the Milwaukee Brewers' organization, brings 13 years of managerial experience, including five in the Frontier League. His managing career began with the Canton Crocodiles in 2000. The Pullman, Wash., native also managed the Washington Wild Things (2002-03), Joliet Jack Hammers of the Northern League (2004-05) and the Traverse City Beach Bums (2006). He has a 337-291 record as a manager in the Independent circuit, including a 252-184 mark in the Frontier League.
In 2007 he joined the Milwaukee Brewers organization, managing the Helena Brewers and one year later he was promoted to the South Atlantic League, where he led the West Virginia Power to a division championship. Over the next three years with the Brewers, he managed the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (2009-10) of the Midwest League, the Brevard County Manatees (2011) of the Florida State League, and last year he went back to the Pioneer League to manage at Helena for a second time.
Prior to taking the reigns as a manager, Isom enjoyed a nice playing career. He was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 18th round of the 1993 Major League Baseball draft out of Purdue University. Isom spent three seasons (1993-95) pitching for the Pirates and San Diego Padres organizations, before signing with Fargo-Moorhead in the Northern League. Isom compiled a career record of 28-28, with an ERA of 4.44 over seven professional seasons.
Isom replaces John Massarelli, and is just the second manager in the history of the franchise. He will be an asset to the players, community and staff. The Crushers plan to utilize the Frontier League veteran in multiple facets of the organization. "Isom will be a great addition to the Crushers organization, both on the field and in the community" said Edelson.
Isom and the Crushers will begin the 2013 season at home. They are slated to start the 2013 season on Friday, May 17, when they lock horns with the Gateway Grizzlies at All Pro Freight Stadium.
The Lake Erie Crushers, the 2011 Frontier League Organization of the year, play ball at All Pro Freight Stadium, a 5,000 capacity stadium located in Avon, OH.
