JOLIET SLAMMERS (54-38) vs. WINDY CITY THUNDERBOLTS (46-46)

Thursday, September 1 - 7:05 p.m. CT

Silver Cross Field - Joliet, IL

Game #93 - Home Game #47 (54-38, 28-18)

LHP #31 KEVIN CRIMMEL (7-4, 4.28 ERA) vs. LHP #31 MATT JERNSTAD (7-10, 3.55 ERA)

Last Time Out.

The Windy City ThunderBolts scored five times in the eighth inning to come-from-behind for the second straight night as the Slammers fell by a score of 10-8. Chuck Lukanen struggled for the second straight night as well and a costly throwing error helped open the flood gates in the eighth. Mike Torres singled to start the frame and Devin Shepherd followed with a two-run home run to cut the Joliet lead to 8-6. The ThunderBolts weren't done though as a single and a walk set up Chad Cregar. Cregar lay down a bunt that Sean Estand threw wildly to first, allowing a run to score and putting two men in scoring position with nobody out. Brian Smith entered the game and was greeted rudely by a Lee Rubin double as Windy City took a 9-8 lead. The Slammers did get a lot of offense in the game including four hits from Kyle Maunus and three from Hector Pellot. Erik Lis smacked his 20th homer too.

For Starters.

Kevin Crimmel has won his last two starts and is coming off a strong outing against Washington on August 26. He went six innings, scattering eight hits, giving up two runs, neither of which were earned. Crimmel walked one and struck out four in the 6-3 victory. The rookie has faced Windy City twice this year and is 1-1 with a 6.55 ERA against the ThunderBolts in 11 innings of work.

League honors.

Bart Zeller earned the Frontier League's Manager of the Year award and Ryan Quigley was named a post-season all-star today. In addition, General Manager John Dittrich and President Bill Waliewski earned Frontier League Executive of the Year honors.

The clincher!

With Traverse City's loss in game one of their doubleheader yesterday, the Slammers clinched the Frontier League's East Division crown.

Going for a record.

The Slammers need three more victories to match the Lake Erie Crushers for the most regular season wins in Frontier League history by an expansion team.

A rare losing streak.

The Slammers have lost four in a row at home, a new record-long home losing streak.

Getting on base.

Brad Netzel has reached base safely in 31 straight games, the longest such streak for a Joliet player this season.

Pellot moving up in the ranks.

With his three hits yesterday, Hector Pellot raised his batting average to .321. He also moved to sixth in the Frontier League in batting average this season.

Save me..

With his save Saturday night, Joliet native Ryan Quigley owns the league record for saves in a season with 27.

It takes two baby.

The Slammers' defense is second in the Frontier League in double plays turned with 87 on the season. Their team defense is currently tied for second in the league with three other teams.

Pitching is the key.

The Slammers have the third best ERA in the Frontier League at 3.85. In addition, they've held opponents to a .246 batting average, the lowest opponent's batting average in the league. The bullpen has been especially strong, compiling an ERA of 3.25.

Transaction Wire.

Joliet activated LHP Brian Fowler from the DL yesterday. The Slammers released RHP Ryne Miller Tuesday and activated OF Kris Kasarjian from the DL.
