Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
LOVES PARK, IL - Traverse City Beach Bums designated hitter Chase Burch became the first Beach Bum to launch three home runs in a single game in 2011 as they beat the Rockford RiverHawks at Road Ranger Stadium by a score of 11-9.
The Beach Bums hit five home runs during the game as a team, with shortstop Jose Vargas and left fielder J.T Hall also chipping in with home runs. Burch, who has a pair of two-homer games in 2011, blasted a solo home run in the first inning to give the Bums a 1-0 lead. In the fourth, Burch lifted his second home run, a two-run shot to extend the Traverse City lead to 7-1. In the sixth, the Bums franchise home run leader drilled his third home run to left-center field to help the Bums to a 9-1 lead.
The RiverHawks went on cut their deficit to 9-6 with a five-run sixth inning, but Traverse City drove in two more runs in the seventh to put the game away courtesy of RBI-singles from right fielder Matt Brown and second baseman Hector Bernal to give the Bums a 11-6 lead, ending the Beach Bums scoring in the ballgame.
Traverse City starting pitcher Scott Dunn(9-3) earned his ninth 2011 victory with five innings on the mound while Rockford starter Nick Gaudi (1-2) suffered his second loss by allowing seven runs in 3.2 innings. Beach Bums reliever Matt Miller finished the contest by throwing the games' final 2.1 innings, earning his first save as a Beach Bum.
