The Grizzlies scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning to break a tie and beat the Freedom 8-5 on Thursday night in the Freedom's home finale. Gateway swept the series from Florence.

Kevin Haas hit a sac fly to put the Freedom on top 1-0 in the second inning.

Gateway had two triples and two doubles in a three-run fourth inning to take the lead against Freedom starter Kevin Asselin. They added a run in the fifth on a wild pitch to make it 4-1.

Cole Miles hit a three-run triple in the fifth inning to tie the game at four.

Neither starter factored in the decision, as Asselin gave up four runs in four innings. The game remained tied until the ninth, when Brandon Mathes (1-2) surrendered a go-ahead two-run homer to Carlton Salters. Case Rigby tacked on a two-run single later in the inning to extend the lead to 8-4.

Chris Curley, who was named a Frontier League post-season All-Star earlier in the day, hit an RBI single in the ninth for the final run. The Freedom had the bases loaded in the ninth but Justin Holloway struck out to end the game. They stranded eight runners in the final three innings.

Florence hits the road to close their season with a three-game series in Normal, Ill. Alec Lewis (4-5, 3.15), who has thrown back-to-back complete games for the Freedom will start on Friday night. First pitch is at 8 p.m. ET.
