Utah Grizzlies News Release

Stockton, California: The Utah Grizzlies got goals from five different scorers in a 5-1 victory over the Stockton Thunder on Friday night for their twentieth win of the season. Utah opened the scoring late in the first period on a goal by West Valley City native D.J. Jelitto, assisted by Louis Dumont and Ryan Kinasewich. The goal was Jelitto's fifth in nine games, and the assist for Dumont was his 850th ECHL point.

The Grizzlies had many chances in the second period, but were unable to convert until the 9:59 mark when All-Star Matt Craig converted a rebound on a Barret Ehgoetz shot to make it 2-0 Utah. Just 1:01 later, Colt King scored his third goal as a Grizzly, with Dumont and Travis Rycroft drawing assists. ECHL Player of the Week Kinasewich kept up his torrid scoring pace with a goal tonight to put the Grizzlies up 4-0 with less than two minutes left in the second period.

Things got rough in the third period, with quite a few fights, but the scored stayed 4-0 Grizzlies until Steve Slonina grabbed a pass from Casey Bartzen in the circle and put the puck past Utah netminder Justin Eddy for the Thunder's first goal. But Trevor Baker answered for Utah less than a minute later with an unassisted goal from the blue line to increase the final score to 5-1.

Justin Eddy made 27 saves in the win for Utah to improve his record to 9-3-1. The Thunder fell to 5-16-4 with the loss. The Grizzlies play again tomorrow night, January 7, at the San Diego Gulls. Game time is 8:00 p.m.
