Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators used four goals from Guillaume Desbiens and four assists from Jeff Campbell to help the Gladiators win their seventh consecutive game as they knocked off the Columbia Inferno 6-3 in front of 6,405 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Saturday night.
Columbia jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the opening period off of two unassisted goals fron Brandon Nolan. His first came 6:41 into the period as he capitalized on a defensive breakdown and ripped a snap shot past Gladiators netminder Sean Fields.
Nolan's second goal came at the 15:49 mark of the period. He was credited with the tally as he was the last Inferno player to touch the puck before a Gladiators player steered the puck into the Gladiators net past Fields giving Columbia a 2-0 lead.
Guillaume Desbiens got the Gladiators on the board 29 seconds into the second period with his 13th goal of the season. Desbiens muscled his way down the right wing and jammed the puck past Columbia netminder Mike Brown for the goal. Troy Milam and Jeff Campbell picked up the assists on the goal.
Milam, Campbell and Desbiens hooked up again for the Gladiators at the 5:30 mark of the second period to tie the game at two. Desbiens deflected Campbell's shot from the slot for his 14th goal of the season.
Scott Mifsud gave the Gladiators a 3-2 lead as he netted his 8th goal of the season. Mifsud found a loose puck in the crease behind Brown and jammed it home for the go-ahead goal. Desbiens and Campbell had the assists on the goal at 10:55 of the second.
Jeff Dwyer posted his second goal of the season to give the Gladiators a 4-2 lead 2:28 into the third period. Dwyer found the loose puck in the slot and jammed it past Brown for the tally. Scott Mifsud and Derek Nesbitt had the assists on the goal.
Travis Lisabeth cut into the Gladiators lead 7:16 into the third period. Mike Stathopoulos and Gustav Engman hooked up to set up Lisabeth on the tally.
Desbiens pushed the Gladiators lead back to two goals with his third marker of the night 12:14 into the third period. Desbiens beat Brown from a bad angle in the right wing corner for the goal. Campbell added his fourth assist of the game on the tally while Mifsud also had a helper.
Desbiens recorded his fourth goal of the game unassisted into an empty net with 1:15 left in the final period. With the marker, Desbiens tied the Gladiators record for most goals in a game also tied this season by Pascal Pelletier against the Inferno in the Gladiators 6-3 win back on December 13th.
Sean Fields posted 27 saves in the 6-3 win over the Inferno as the Gladiators won their second consecutive game when being held off the board on the power play.
