Bakersfield Condors News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Ryan Munce stopped an ECHL season-high 63 shots and turned away four of six shootout attempts as the Bakersfield Condors (12-10-4) defeated the Long Beach Ice Dogs (14-14-4) by a score of 2-1 at the Long Beach Arena.

The Condors opened scoring on their first power play. Dave Bonk brought the play into the offensive zone and dropped it off for Joel Irving, who cut in front of the crease for a quick point-blank pass to Andrew Ianiero at the far post. Ianiero's shot was initially saved by Long Beach netminder Jaroslav Halak, but the rebound was deflected in off the skate of an Ice Dog defender, giving the Condors a 1-0 lead with 6:32 left in the first period.

The Ice Dogs would tie the game in the period's final minute, when Mike Woodford caught Ryan Munce on the far post and tapped the puck into the open side of the net. Mike Vellinga and Mac Faulkner assisted as Long Beach tied the game at 1-1 with just over 41 seconds left in the frame.

Long Beach would pepper the net all night long and would continue to be stifled by Munce. A shot off the post by Ash Goldie at the end of the second period kept the game tied heading into the third, and Munce's acrobatic save would continue the trend late in the contest, which would head into overtime.

A Dave Bonk tripping penalty gave the Ice Dogs an overtime power play, but Munce's play combined with a skillful penalty kill kept the game deadlocked as time expired in the extra period.

The first two shootout attempts by each team failed, but the Condors and Ice Dogs would trade goals through the next two rounds. After each team's fifth shooter missed their chances, Reagan Leslie lifted his opportunity under the crossbar to give Bakersfield the advantage. Long Beach sent out Kevin Ulanski to tie the game, but Monce would force his shot away to the right to give the Condors the 2-1 shootout victory.

Ryan Munce earned the hard-fought victory, stopping 63 shots on 64 Long Beach attempts. Jaroslav Halak was credited with the loss, making 23 saves on 24 chances.

Other notes: Kevin Truelson missed the game after back spasms during the team's morning practice. Oriel McHugh sat out the second game of a three-game suspension handed out by the ECHL earlier this week. Dave Bonk has scored four points in four appearances with the Condors. Tonight was the first road victory by the Condors against a Pacific Division opponent. The shootout victory is Munce's fifth of the season, which leads the league.

Bakersfield returns home this Saturday for a highly-anticipated match-up with the Alaska Aces. The first 2,000 children in attendance age 12 and under will receive a complimentary Condors backpack, courtesy of KGET-TV and Goodwill Industries.
