Alaska Aces News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Cam Keith scored the tie-breaking goal with 8:15 left in regulation and Alaska tacked on two more in posting its first win in Bakersfield in nearly two years, 7-4, before 7,142 Saturday night at Rabobank Arena.

Alaska fell behind early on a shot from the high slot by Dave Bonk that somehow slipped between the pads of goaltender Matt Underhill at 5:28. The Aces regrouped, and their power play, which accounted for three goals in Thursday's 5-0 win at Phoenix, clicked at the 12:52 mark, as Oliver Filion was credited with his seventh goal of the year on a slap shot that he half-fanned on but still slipped through screened Condors goalie Ryan Munce. Corbin Schmidt, who scored his first pro goal in that win over the Roadrunners, gave Alaska its first lead at 2-1 with a slapper from the top of the right circle with 3:42 left in the period.

The Aces threatened to break the game open five minutes into the second period with two goals 25 seconds apart. Joe Talbot scored another power play goal for the Aces at 5:01, the third of the night and 12th over a five-game span. Shortly after the puck dropped, Ryan Gale and Justin Maiser burst in on a two-on-one, with Maiser banging home Gale's rebound for his second goal of the season to extend Alaska's margin to 4-1. But Bakersfield answered quickly, as Sean Venedam scored off the rush at 6:42 and Dennis Shiryaev smacked in a rebound with 2:14 left in the period to draw the Condors within 4-3 heading to intermission.

Bakersfield finally got the equalizer when Venedam beat Underhill top shelf with 8:42 remaining in the third period, but Keith scored off the rush from the right circle with a wrist shot just 27 seconds later to give the Aces the lead for good. Alex Leavitt fed Ryan Ramsay with a no-look backhand pass for an insurance tally with 5:37 left, and Mike Scott capped the scoring with an empty-netter at 19:50, assisted by Barrett Heisten, who extended his points streak to an ECHL season-high 17 games. Alaska fired a season-high 41 shots on goal, while Underhill recorded 27 saves to win for the 11th time in his last 12 starts.

The Aces, now unbeaten in their last nine games on the road and 24-4-3 overall, face a four-hour bus ride to San Diego, with tomorrow's game against the Gulls scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. AST start. Next week, Alaska returns to Phoenix for three more games against the Roadrunners, beginning Tuesday at 5:11 p.m. AST.

All Alaska Aces games, home and away, are broadcast live on KFQD AM 750 and at www.alaskaaces.com. In addition, all home games and selected road contests will be available on a pay-per-view basis on the internet, courtesy of B2 Networks.
