Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, today announced that forward Mike Kompon has been loaned to the Manchester Monarchs. In separate transactions, the Royals have also signed defenseman Antoine Bergeron ["AN-twan BUR-zhur-on"] and placed forward John Morlang on the 7-Day Injured Reserve.

This marks the first call up to the AHL in the career of Kompon, who is a second year pro and leads the Royals in points having scored nine goals and assisted on twenty-seven others (36 points) in 27 games. Selected as the Rookie of the Year in the United Hockey League last season, Kompon is currently riding a team high fourteen game point streak (3g - 18a = 21pts). Bergeron, a third round pick of the St. Louis Blues in 2000, played 37 games with the Royals in 2003-04 and scored a goal and assisted on seven others, while picking up 49 penalty minutes. Bergeron last played pro in 2003-04 when he played in ten games for the Trenton Titans, scoring a goal and assisting on another.

Bergeron is expected to be in uniform when Reading concludes the team's season long seven game road trip against the Trenton Titans tonight (7:00 pm). The Royals return home on Tuesday, January 10, against the Wheeling Nailers in a game sponsored by the Pennsylvania Lottery. Royals' game day broadcasts can be heard on ESPN Radio 1240 am in Ephrata and www.royalshockey.com with pre-game beginning 30 minutes before the opening face-off. Streaming video is also available through the Royals' website on a pay per view basis provided by B2 Networks.
