Ice Dogs Drop Another, Lose To Steelheads 4-1

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs (14-15-4) continued the struggles at home, losing for the tenth time in 18 games at the Long Beach Arena this season, this time to the Idaho Steelheads (20-10-2). The loss dropped the Ice Dogs into the third place in the Pacific Division standings since San Diego won 6-2 tonight over Utah.

The Steelheads scored first, at 14:18 of the opening period, with a goal by league scoring leader Garrett Bembridge. The assists were credited to Mike Stutzel and David Bararuk. It would prove to be the only scoring for either team in the first period.

In the second, Mike Gabinet got his first goal of the year at 6:18 unassisted to give Idaho a 2-0 lead. Then at 10:43, Idaho struck again with another goal by Bembridge, from Gabinet and Stutzel to take a commanding 3-0 lead heading into the third period.

Just 14 seconds in the third, Ash Goldie scored the first and only goal for Long Beach, with Justin Aikins and Steeve Villeneuve assisting on the play. Then with the goaltender pulled for the extra attacker, the Steelheads scored their fourth and final goal with 43 seconds remaining to seal the win.

Olivier Michaud started the game for Long Beach and was credited with the loss, despite being replaced with Jaroslav Halak in the second period. Matt Yeats got the win for Idaho with 21 saves. The Ice Dogs went 0-6 on the power play and the Steelheads were 1-5.
