Grizzlies Knock off Thunder, 3-1
January 5, 2019 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release
W. Valley City, UT - Tim McGauley recorded the game-winner late in the second and Wichita couldn't solve Kevin Carr down the stretch in a 3-1 loss on Friday night to Utah at the Maverik Center.
Jesse Gabrielle netted the Thunder's only goal with an assist to Steven Iacobellis.
The Grizzlies took the lead at 6:49 of the first period as Mike Economos found a seam near the net and buried a wrist shot from the right hash-mark to make it 1-0. Neither team could keep the pressure going in the offensive zone, combining for just 14 shots in the first.
Gabrielle tied the game at 8:51 of the second as he raced to a loose puck in the neutral zone, came down the slot and fired a shot past Carr.
In the third, Wichita dominated the frame as they outshot the Grizzlies 12-6. Wichita called a late timeout with an offensive zone draw. Jack Walker got to a loose puck after a clearing attempt went back into the Thunder end. He outraced a Thunder defenseman to prevent icing for the third Utah goal of the night.
Gabrielle potted his second goal in a Thunder uniform and seventh of the season. Iacobellis has assists in back-to-back games.
Wichita remains in Utah to close out a three-game set tomorrow night starting at 8:05 p.m. CST.
