Grizzlies Defeat Wranglers in Overtime Thriller
December 31, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
Trevor Baker knocked in a rebound shot from Ed Hill and the Utah Grizzlies squeaked to a 6-5 overtime victory over the Las Vegas Wranglers on Friday night.
The Grizzlies didn't waste much time getting on the scoreboard in this one as Ryan Kinasewich converted on the first Utah power play of the game for his tenth of the season at the 4:37 mark. But Las Vegas answered back just over ten minutes later when Matt Dzieduszycki found the back of the net. Kinasewich put the Grizzlies up 2-1 with his second goal of the game, also on the power play, assisted by Louis Dumont and Tom Reimann, to give Utah the lead going into the intermission.
In the second period the Grizzlies stuck again; ten seconds into the period, Chad Starling found Garett Cameron for a goal, and Utah increased their lead to 3-1. Ian Forbes added another Grizzlies tally at the 4:44 mark, an unassisted goal, his first of the season. Then Kinasewich scored again, to complete the hat trick, his second of the season, and third power play goal of the game. Shawn Limpright put one in for the Wranglers with less than two minutes remaining in the period, to cut the score to 5-2 Grizzlies after two.
Vegas turned on the offence in the third period, with Scott Schoneck picking up his second of the season at 11:40 of the period to cut the Utah lead to two. Dzieduszycki netted his second of the game less than two minutes later. With only five seconds on the clock and a Las Vegas power play, Christian Chartier found Derek Edwardson for the tying goal and forced overtime.
But the Grizzlies rallied in overtime, and newcomers Ed Hill and Trevor Baker connected for the game-winner. With the third overtime win of the season, the Grizzlies improved to 18-10-2, while the Wranglers fell to 23-4-3. The Grizzlies and Wranglers face each other on Saturday, December 31, when Las Vegas visits the E-Center in West Valley City for the first time this season. Face off is 6:05 p.m.
