LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs (14-13-3) did manage to beat the Phoenix Roadrunners (9-16-2) for the fourth time in five games this season, but it didn't come easily despite a 3-0 lead in the first. The Ice Dogs remain in second place in the Pacific Division.

Sean McAslan got it started for Long Beach at 2:48 of the opening period, from Mike Woodford and Mac Faulkner. Then at 13:08, Faulkner scored from Woodford and McAslan. At 16:05, the Ice Dogs made it 3-0 on Ash Goldie's 15th goal of the season on the power play from Steeve Villeneuve and Chris Kenady.

The Roadrunners began to make the game interesting at 13:55 with a goal by Jason Deskins from Dean Tiltgen, and then made it 3-2 with a goal by Brad Woods from Deskins and Shaun Fisher. Kevin Ulanski gave Long Beach a two goal lead late at 19:26, from Cory Urquhart to end the period at 4-2.

The third period scoring began with another Ice Dogs goal, this time by Kenady from Justin Aikins and Christian Larrivee at 1:03. Phoenix made it 5-3 on Peter Trovato's goal from Jean-Francois Soucy, before Long Beach made it 6-3 on Urquhart's goal from Ulanski and Villeneuve. Phoenix made it closer when Jake Riddle knocked one in from Tiltgen, but their final goal by former Ice Dog Mike Ouellet with two seconds in the game was too late to complete the comeback.
