December 31, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release
BOISE, Idaho - The ECHL announced Saturday that Idaho Steelheads forwards D'Arcy McConvey and Garett Bembridge, along with defenseman Jonathan Zion, have been named to the National Conference All-Star Team. The 2006 ECHL All-Star Game, presented by Bud Light, is scheduled for January 25th at Save Mart Center in Fresno, California.
Idaho's head coach Derek Laxdal said, "I'm proud of the accomplishments of every player on our team, and I'm especially happy these three individuals have been recognized for their achievements. Playing in the All-Star Game will be a great opportunity to show why they've been selected."
Idaho has two starters with right wing Bembridge and center McConvey, who are both making their first All-Star appearances. Zion, also represented on the roster, is making his third All-Star appearance.
Bembridge leads the league with 24 goals and 47 points in 29 games while captain McConvey is tied for the league lead with five game-winning goals and is fourth in the league with 36 points (16g-20a) in 23 games. McConvey is under contract to Iowa of the AHL and is currently on call up to the Stars where he has played in four games. Zion, who was voted as a starter in 2004 and also selected in 2003, ranks second among league defensemen with 10 goals and 29 points in 23 games.
The starting lineups were determined in voting by National Conference coaches, team captains, media directors, broadcasters and newspaper writers. Coaches also submitted the top prospects from within their conference to determine the final roster with each of the 14 teams in the National Conference having a representative.
