Ice Dogs Downed By Royals, 6-2

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs (14-14-3) were unable to close out 2005 with a victory, falling to the Reading Royals (19-6-2) by a score of 6-2. The loss put the Ice Dogs back at the .500 mark, though they still retain second place in the Pacific Division.

Reading got an early goal in the first period at 1:24 by Doug Christiansen from Dany Roussin to make it 1-0. But Justin Aikins tied it up at 6:33 with his 10th of the year from Chris Kenady and Christian Larrivee. Then at 9:09, Chris Bala gave the Royals a 2-1 lead with a shorthanded goal. Tyler Hanchuck assisted on the play.

In the second, Reading took a 3-1 lead at 10:28 with another shorthanded goal, this time unassisted by John Morlang. They made it 4-1 when Bala scored from John Francisco and Tyler Manchuck at 17:52. Then with the Ice Dogs on the power play, Christian Larrivee made it a two goal game when he scored from Chris Kenady and Steeve Villeneuve.

The third period was all Reading, as Roussin scored a power play goal at 17:25 from T.J. Kemp and John Francisco to make it 5-2. They scored the final goal, an empty netter, with 29 seconds remaining with Christiansen's second of the game from Grant Jacobsen and John Morlang.

Jaroslav Halak got the start for Long Beach, but was replaced by Greg Hewitt in the first after giving up two goals on four shots. Hewitt finished the game with 34 saves and the loss, while Yutaka Fukufuji got the win with 24 saves. The Ice Dogs went 1-5 on the power play while the Royals were 1-6.
