Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The ECHL announced today that Utah Grizzlies forward Matt Craig and defenseman James Laux have been named to the league's All-Star team in the National Conference. The game will be played January 25 at Save Mart Center in Fresno, California.
In 30 games this season, Craig, a rookie out of Quinnipiac University, leads the team in goals scored (19 - 4th in the ECHL and 2nd among ECHL rookies), points (32 - 4th among ECHL rookies), game-winning goals (3) and power-play goals (8.) He is the only Utah player to have recorded at least one shot on goal (99) in every game played so far. He also currently has eight multi-point games, including five games of three points. He scored his first professional goal, the game-winner, in his second professional game (October 22, 2005 @ Phoenix.) The very next night, he tallied another game-winning goal versus the RoadRunners, posting two goals, one assist and a plus 3.
Despite being on IR since late November, Laux is still ranked among the league leaders in scoring by defensemen, with six goals and 12 assists in 16 games. He was acquired by the Grizzlies just days prior to the start of the season from the Wheeling Nailers. Before being injured, Laux tallied 13 power-play points (six goals, seven assists), and was an integral part of the Grizzlies nine-game winning streak (October 29-November 24.) The New Jersey native played college hockey at Colorado College, and was selected 114th overall by the St. Louis Blues in the 1999 entry draft.
The Grizzlies, winners of five of six, are back on E-Center ice tonight and tomorrow hosting Las Vegas. Face-offs both evenings are scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
