December 31, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Devils News Release
WHEELING, WV - The Trenton Titans finished out 2005 in fine fashion coming back from a two-goal deficit in the third period to defeat the Wheeling Nailers, 3-2 in front of 2,791 at WesBanco Arena.
After a scoreless first period, the Nailers broke the 0-0 tie when Luis Tremblay took a pass from Eric Sonnenberg and fired a wrist shot from the slot that beat Dustin Traylen at 8:36 of the second.
Wheeling extended their lead further at 8:03 of the third period as Sean Collins fed Kurtis McLean in the slot for his 22nd tally of the year.
The Titans started the rally with a power play goal by Jim Henkel at 12:42 of final frame. The newest Titan took a pass from Brian McConnell and snuck the puck inside the near post to cut the Nailers' lead to one.
The equalizer came just over three minutes later as Scott Bertoli found Stephen Wood for a one-timer that beat Andy Franck to the glove side. Henkel record the second assist on the play.
Henkel continued his heroics when his turn-around shot from the far wall ricocheted off a stick and past Frank with just 2:37 remaining in regulation.
Traylen helped the Titans hold on for the win with 26 saves on the night, while Wheeling saw their five-game winning streak come to an end.
The Titans finished 1-for-2 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
Trenton starts off 2006 with a match against the Dayton Bombers on Friday, January 6 at 7:00pm. Tune into 91.3FM WTSR or go to www.trentontitans.com to hear all of the Titans action.
