
Felix Scores Twice in Overtime Loss to Growlers

The Reading Royals, proud affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, fell to the Newfoundland Growlers in overtime, 4-3, Saturday, October 22 at the Mary Brown's Centre. The Royals earned their first point of the young season in the post regulation loss as they now hold a 0-1-1 record. Royals goaltender Nolan Maier saved 20 of 24 shots faced while Growlers goalie Luke Cavalin saved 24 of 27 shots faced.
The Royals outshot the Growlers 27 to 24, however failed to score on their two power play opportunities. Newfoundland notched the game's lone power play goal which came on their second of three chances. Reading struck first on Colin Felix's first of two-goals eight minutes into the opening period. Felix snapped a shot from the blue line that beat Cavalin courtesy of a screen applied by Jacob Gaucher for the first goal of his professional career.

Reading added an insurance goal five minutes into the second period on a beautiful feed from Jacob Gaucher behind Newfoundland's net to Max Newton skating in the slot. Gaucher earned the assist for his first professional career point on Newton's first goal as a Royal.
The Royals two-goal lead was cut in half just over a minute after Newton's goal in the second period. Zach O'Brien and Tyler Boland broke out on a two-on-one rush and capitalized on the man-up opportunity with their first goal of the game. O'Brien delivered a saucer pass over the stick of Mason Millman for a Tyler Boland one-timer that beat Maier high-blocker side. Boland's second goal in back-to-back games earned O'Brien his first of three assists in the game.
Newfoundland scored two goals in the opening eight minutes of the third period to take the lead until Felix evened up the score. Zane Franklin and Brendan Hoffmann earned assists on Felix's second goal of the game, good for the Camden, New Jersey natives first multi-point game in just the third game of his professional career.
The game went to overtime after nine minutes of regulation time expired without a goal. It took only 26 seconds into the overtime period for the Michael Joyaux to score the game winner for Newfoundland. Tyler Boland and Zach O'Brien earned the assists on Joyaux's second goal of the game for the first multi-goal game of his two-game professional career.
The Royals conclude their three-game series against the Growlers in St.John's, Newfoundland Sunday, October 23 at 2:30 p.m. at the Mary Brown's Centre.
