Eagles Rally to Beat Condors 5-3

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -The Colorado Eagles (21-13-0-0) warmly welcomed back forward Taylor Vause as he scored two unanswered goals to help take down the Bakersfield Condors (17-15-1-3), 5-3, on Friday evening at Rabobank Arena.

At the 11:32 mark of the first frame, Bakersfield defenseman Brendon Nash got the best of Eagles netminder Tate Maris, top-shelf, to gain the 1-0 advantage over the Eagles. With just under three minutes left in the first, Condors blue-liner Nick Pageau gave Bakersfield the 2-0 lead with a shot from the point. Eagles defenseman Collin Bowman cut the Condors lead in half, 2-1, with just over one minute left in the first with a power-play goal from the high-slot.

Eagles forward Greg Gardner picked up a rebound on the top of the crease and stuffed home the game-tying goal, 2-2, at the 9:13 mark of the second period. Less than one minute later fellow forward Derek Rodwell gave the Eagles their first lead of the game, 3-2, on a rush down the ice to beat Bakersfield goalie Frans Tuohimaa from the face-off circle.

Six minutes and fifty-three seconds into the third stanza, Condors forward Chase Schaber tied the game, 3-3, as he beat Maris from the top of the crease. Vause gave the Eagles the 4-3 lead from between the hashes, 11:50 into the third with his first goal of the night. Just over five minutes later, Vause netted his second goal of the game with a backhanded shot from the low slot. Maris picked up his first professional win in his first professional start, shutting down 14 of the Condors 17 shots for the 5-3 victory.
