IceMen Cruise Past Missouri as Sims & Greenham Win Their Debuts
January 10, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Evansville IceMen News Release
INDEPENDENCE, MO- The Evansville IceMen blitzed the Missouri Mavericks to earn a 4-1 victory in the first game of the Al Sims era. Scott Greenham denied 44 Maverick shots to win his IceMen (10-18-2-2) debut and earn first star honors.
It took less than three minutes for the IceMen to get on the board in Sims' first game behind the bench. Jarret Lukin rifled a shot that Maxim Lagace stopped. However, Lukin tracked down his own rebound and potted a backhanded shot all alone with the goaltender to give the IceMen a 1-0 lead.
Kevin Harvey and Daniel Johnston added the helpers on Lukin's goal. Harvey and Lukin now have two-game point streaks.
The Mavericks tied it up six minutes later. Josh Brittain scored on a power play to knot the game at one entering the first intermission.
Evansville took control in the second period. Just 22 seconds into the frame, Donnie Harris smoked a slap shot towards the net. Lagace turned it away, but Jakub Culek pounced on the rebound and blasted it into the back of the net to put the IceMen back in front 2-1. Guillaume Lepine picked up an assist on the play to push his point streak to two.
The IceMen added a little insurance later in the second period. On a 5-on-3 power play, Culek sent the puck back to Brandon Wong at the blue line. Wong launched a shot past Lagace to make it a 3-1 IceMen lead. Jim McKenzie also picked up a point on the play to extend his point streak to three games.
Greenham kept the Mavericks off the scoreboard in the third. The Addison, ON native stopped 15 shots in the third period and 44 shots overall to clinch his first win with the IceMen.
With under two minutes to play, Colin Murray lofted the puck high into the air. It landed in the Missouri zone and trickled into the empty net to make it a 4-1 IceMen win. The goal was Murray's fourth with the IceMen.
