Alaska Aces News Release

BOISE, Idaho - Olivier Roy made 31 saves, enough for the Idaho Steelheads to stall an Alaska Aces rally in a 4-3 Aces defeat, before 4,694 fans at CenturyLink Arena on Friday. The Aces had their seven-game unbeaten streak in regulation (5-0-2) come to an end, nearly rallying from a 4-1 deficit with a Brad Cole goal in the second period and Greg Wolfe's marker in the third. Quinn Sproule lifted the Aces to a 1-0 lead at 9:13 of the first period, finishing Olivier Archambault's feed at the left circle after Archambault drew a pair of defenders in the slot. But 13 seconds later, Idaho answered on Wade MacLeod's deflection at the net, set up by Eamonn McDermott's blueline shot to level the game, 1-1. Alex Belzile then converted his 16th goal of the season, maneuvering around the Aces defense to the left circle at 14:20 for a 2-1 edge. Patrick Cullity then finished a backdoor feed on the power play for a 3-1 lead with 47 seconds remaining. David deKastrozza buried his third shorthanded goal of the year from the right circle on Niklas Lundstrom, a snap shot at 5:43 of the second period for a 4-1 cushion while Lundstrom was lifted for backup Aaron Crandall. The move, along with an Aces penalty kill halfway through the period, provided a lifeline which led to Cole's third goal of the season with 2:20 left in the second period. Tim Coffman threaded a cross-ice pass to Cole, gliding to the right circle for a one-timer that beat Roy under the crossbar. The Aces gained more life after gaining a five-minute major power play and drew to within 4-3 after two misses off the post, followed by Wolfe's rebounder through Roy's five-hole at 4:48.

Bryan Cameron nearly tied the game three minutes later on a chance that missed the net, glove side on Roy. Then with Crandall pulled for an extra attacker, Walters fired a shot that missed the short side corner from the right circle with 20 seconds left.

Roy earned the win with 31 saves, while Lundstrom, who had 13 saves in 25 minutes, took the loss. NOTES: The Aces scratched Justin Johnson, Ryan Tesink, Brad Gorham and Justin Breton ... the Aces dropped their fourth straight defeat at Idaho and are now 3-4-0 in the season series ... Wolfe's goal broke a three-game goal scoring drought ... Roy had a shutout streak of 137:23 before Sproule's game-opening goal ... Colten Hayes left the game on a check by James Livingston (five minute elbowing major) behind the Aces net ... ECHL vice president of hockey operations Joe Ernst was in attendance at the game.

The two teams meet again in a rematch tomorrow, at 5:10 p.m. (KFQD/ECHL.TV) at CenturyLink Arena.
