Mavericks Defeated 4-1 by IceMen
January 10, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kansas City Mavericks News Release
Independence, MO - The Missouri Mavericks dropped their sixth straight home game on Friday night at the hands of the visiting Evansville IceMen, 4-1.
The Mavericks recorded 45 shots on goal through 60 minutes of play, but Josh Brittain notched the only tally past net minder Scott Greenham- in goal for the first time for Evansville since being assigned from the Binghamton Senators (AHL).
Goaltender Maxime Lagace turned away 27 of Evansville's 31 shots on goal throughout the contest.
Evansville jumped onto the board first when Jarret Lukin took advantage of a loose puck in front of the Lagace, for a quick 1-0 lead just 2:41 into the game. Josh Brittain scored the equalizer for Missouri at 8:31 of the first period on Missouri's first power play opportunity of the night.
Tied 1-1 at the top of the second period, the IceMen wasted no time taking the lead over the Mavs, scoring only 22 seconds into the frame. Jakub Culek was credited with the goal. Then Evansville did it again at 12:20 with a power play goal from Brandon Wong for a 3-1 advantage.
Despite tallying exactly 15 shots on goal per period, the Mavericks could not connect with the back of the net to cut into Evansville's lead, and the final blow was dealt at 19:18 when the IceMan scored an empty netter via Colin Murray.
The Mavericks are on the road for their next two games in Allen, TX to face-off against the Allen Americans in back-to-back contests on Saturday and Sunday. Missouri returns home for a Saturday night game on January 17th at Independence Events Center.
The Mavericks are excited to be welcoming the legendary Hanson Brothers from the 1977 movie "Slap Shot" to the IEC on the 17th when the Mavs will be wearing specialty "Chiefs" jerseys which will be auctioned off directly following the game in sections 101 & 102, benefitting the Rainbow Center.
Fans can purchase tickets to a VIP meet & greet before the game with the Hanson Brothers at Strikerz Entertainment Center from 4:00-5:30pm by calling the Missouri Mavericks office at 816-252-7825 during normal business hours or by emailing lfish@missourimavericks.com.
