IceMen Storm Thunder For 5-3 Win WICHITA, Kan.- A three goal second period propelled the Evansville IceMen, presented by Coors Light, past the Wichita Thunder by a score of 5-3. Evansville has now won two games in a row and remains undefeated in the Al Sims era. Donnie Harris and Kale Kerbashian both had multi-point games as Evansville blitzed the Thunder to their second consecutive win. Evansville (11-18-2-2, 26 points) has pulled off consecutive road wins for the first time this season.
The Thunder struck first. RG Flath knocked in a rebound to make it a 1-0 lead just 90 seconds into the game.
Evansville answered later in the first. Jakub Culek intercepted a clearing pass in the offensive zone and blasted a shot past Tim Boron to tie the game. Culek's second goal of the season and second in as many nights knotted the game up at one entering the first intermission.
Early in the second period, Guy Lepine got the puck out to Kale Kerbashian on an outlet feed. Kerbashian carried the puck into the offensive zone and left it for Donnie Harris at the blue line. Harris slammed a slap shot into the net. Harris' first goal of the season made it a 2-1 IceMen lead.
With the Thunder on a power play, Daniel Johnston lofted the puck out of the zone. Matt Lowry tracked it down, weaved through two Wichita defenders and banged in his sixth of the season. Evansville's first shorthanded goal of the season put the IceMen up 3-1.
Evansville made it a three goal lead midway through the second period. Harris fired a shot that Peter Sakaris deflected into the back of the net. The IceMen claimed a 4-1 lead on Sakaris' sixth of the year.
Wichita rallied with goals form Ian Duval and Jared Walker to make it 4-3. The short handed strike from Walker brought the Thunder within one entering the final period of play.
In the final minute, Jarret Lukin scored an empty netter courtesy of Kale Kerbashian and Jim McKenzie to push the IceMen lead back to two. McKenzie's assist gives him a four-game point streak and helped put the IceMen up 5-3, which would be the final score.
