Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Metairie, La. - The New Orleans Baby Cakes hit three homers with runners on base and starting pitcher Zac Gallen continued his impressive start to the season with seven strong innings, sending the Oklahoma City Dodgers to a 10-2 loss Friday night at the Shrine on Airline.

New Orleans (16-12) set a season high with 15 hits and used two big innings to lead the way to victory. Trailing, 1-0, in the fourth inning, the Baby Cakes scored four times, all with two outs. Austin Dean put the Baby Cakes ahead with a three-run homer, and following a single by Matt Snyder, Lewis Brinson made it 4-1 with a RBI double.

Leading, 4-2, in the seventh inning, New Orleans pulled away with a five-run frame, featuring a pair of two-run homers by Isan Diaz and Deven Marrero. A throwing error with two outs plated the final run of the inning.

The Baby Cakes scored their final run in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly by Snyder.

As has been the case of late, things got off to an encouraging start for the Dodgers (8-19). Shane Peterson gave OKC an early lead, sending an opposite field home run out to left field in the second inning for his first dinger of the year.

But following Peterson's home run, Gallen retired the next 13 batters consecutively. Facing the Dodgers two times through the lineup, Gallen retired 17 of 18 batters as the New Orleans went ahead, 4-1.

With two outs in the sixth inning, Daniel Castro connected on his first home run of the season on a line drive to left field, trimming the deficit to two runs.

In the seventh inning, Kyle Garlick singled with one out, becoming the first Dodger to reach base. After Peterson was hit by a pitch, the Dodgers had the tying run on base, but Gallen finished his outing by striking out Jake Peter and Angelo Mora to preserve the lead.

Gallen (4-0) recorded 10 strikeouts for his second double-digit strikeout game of the season while not allowing a walk. He combined with two relievers to limit the Dodgers to five hits throughout the game.

Dodgers starting pitcher Brock Stewart took the loss after giving up four runs and seven hits over four innings. He notched a season-high five strikeouts to go along with two walks.

Friday marked the fourth straight game the Dodgers allowed at least nine runs, with three games allowing 10 or more. With Friday's defeat, the Dodgers have now lost four straight games and 13 of their last 15 games.

The Dodgers continue their series in New Orleans at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Shrine on Airline. Live radio coverage of each game begins 15 minutes before first pitch on AM 1340 "The Game," 1340thegame.com and through the free iHeartRadio or MiLB First Pitch apps.
