Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Iowa smashed three home runs, including a grand slam from shortstop Addison Russell and a two-run shot by first baseman Jim Adduci as part of a seven-run sixth inning, while starter Mike Montgomery tossed six solid innings as part of a Major League Rehab Assignment in the Cubs' 9-1 win over the Omaha Storm Chasers on Friday night at Werner Park.
Montgomery (6.0 IP, H, R, ER, 2 BB, 3 K), who pitched with the Storm Chasers during the 2011-12 campaigns, spun six solid frames in his Major League Rehab Assignment, yielding a lone run on one hit. Three Iowa relievers supported Montgomery with a scoreless frame each, including former Omaha pitcher Tim Collins (1.0 IP, BB, K). Storm Chasers starter Scott Blewett (5.2 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 4 BB, K) suffered the defeat.
The Storm Chasers struck first in the opening frame when SS Humberto Arteaga singled to right, took second on a wild pitch and then stole third prior to coming across on a forceout. Iowa from that point plated nine unanswered runs, starting with a two-spot in the second thanks to DH Phillip Evans ' two-run blast to left. The 2-1 margin remained until the sixth, when Russell and Adduci left the yard as part of the big seven-run sixth inning.
Evans (2-5, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI) and Adduci (2-5, R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI) each posted a multi-hit effort, along with RF Johnny Field (2-4, R, RBI, BB). Arteaga, 2B Erick Mejia and C Andrew Susac recorded one knock apiece for Omaha, with Mejia added several spectacular defensive plays as well. 2B Jecksson Flores also reached base three times via a trio of walks.
The two teams are set to continue their four-game series on Saturday night, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm CT. RHP Arnaldo Hernandez (0-2, 10.89) is anticipated to get the nod for the Storm Chasers, with the I-Cubs slated to send RHP Duane Underwood Jr. (1-3, 7.77) to the hill.
Tickets for that game and all remaining Storm Chasers home contests can be purchased online at www.omahastormchasers.com, or by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office from noon until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at (402) 738-5100.
