Derlago shines in first games this season

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors split a pair of games on the week, blowing out the Ontario Reign on the road before falling to the Stockton Thunder at home. LW Mark Derlago played his first games of the season, notching a hat trick Wednesday and finishing the week with six points (4g-2a) in the two games.

The Condors are 2-3-1 on the season, and tied for 4th place with the Las Vegas Wranglers in the Pacific Division, with five points on the season thus far. The Fresno Falcons and Ontario Reign remain tied for the early division lead with eight points apiece.

Condors 6 vs. ONTARIO 3

LW Mark Derlago (right), playing in his first game of the season, notched a hat trick and an assist to lead the Condors to a 6-3 victory against the Ontario Reign on the road last Wednesday. F Matt Caruana scored the first of his two goals in the first period, but Ontario tied it through one frame. The Condors controlled the second with two goals from Derlago and one from Caruana, who both scored in the final minute of the period to put the Condors up, 4-1, after two. Ontario scored twice in the third, but a power-play goal by Derlago, for the hat trick, and an empty-net goal by RW Liam Huculak kept Bakersfield comfortably ahead. G Dave McKee stopped 26 of 29 shots to earn his second win of the season.

Stockton 8 vs. CONDORS 3

The Condors jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with first-period goals by RW Liam Huculak (left) and C Dave Bonk, but Stockton responded by tallying one of their own in the first and five consecutive goals in the second to pull ahead. LW Mark Derlago lit the lamp at 12:57 in the second to bring the Condors within three, 6-3, but Stockton added two more in the third to account for the 8-3 final score. G Dave McKee started the game and picked up the loss, stopping eight of 12 shots before being replaced in net by G Joey Perricone 4:26 into the second. Perricone stopped 16 of 20 shots the rest of the game.

AU REVOIR ROUSSIN:

RW Dany Roussin has left the Condors to pursue an opportunity to play overseas in Germany. He has subsequently been placed on team suspension. Roussin registered three assists with a -1 rating and five shots on goal in five games this season.

PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES:

The Condors are 5th in the league with an average attendance of 5,715.

LW Mark Derlago's hat trick on Wednesday was the fourth of his career. He tied a Condors record with three hat tricks as a rookie last season. He totaled six points (4g-2a) in the week's two games, and is on a two-game goal-scoring streak.

F Matt Caruana's team-leading six goals are tied for 5th in the ECHL and tied for 3rd among the league's rookies.

C Dave Bonk (right) notched four points (1g-3a) on the week, and leads the team with five assists this season. He is currently on a two-game point streak, and leads the team with three multi-point games this year.

Bonk's six total points are currently tied for the team lead with Caruana (6g-0a), Derlago (4g-2a), and F Matt Pope (3g-3a).

Caruana (42.9%) and Pope (37.5%) are 1st and 2nd, respectively, in shooting percentage among ECHL rookies.

RW Liam Huculak is on a two-game goal-scoring streak and three-game point streak, and has four points (2g-2a) overall. He also leads the team with 27 PIM.

LW Chad Painchaud (right) picked up three assists Wednesday and has five points (1g-4a) this season.

F Dale Reinhardt made his 2008-09 season debut on Saturday against Stockton.

The Condors are the least-penalized team in the 10-team National Conference with 126 PIM.

D Scotty Balan remains on the 3-IR, though he is eligible to be activated. F Matt Pope also remains on the 7-IR, and will be eligible to be activated on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

PROMOTIONAL INFO:

The Condors are back on the Mercy & Memorial Hospitals Home Ice at Rabobank Arena this Wednesday for the annual Businessperson's Special/Field Trip Day Game, presented by My 45 and KERN 1410, against the Victoria Salmon Kings. Tickets cost just $10 for any seat in The Nest, and the game will feature an educational booklet and other in-game activities geared towards learning. Doors open at 9:30 a.m., puck drops at 10:30 a.m.

In addition to being broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1230, B2 Networks and Bakersfieldcondors.com, the game will be televised live on Bright House Networks Ch. 21, and will be replayed that night at 7 p.m. Wednesday's game will also be available On Demand on Ch. 300, starting Thursday.

The Condors then hit the road for a Friday night match-up against the Las Vegas Wranglers at Orleans Arena. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m., so be sure to tune in 15 minutes prior to the opening face off for Condors Countdown with the "Voice of the Condors," Kevin Bartl. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1230, B2 Networks and Bakersfieldcondors.com.

After the quick trip to Vegas, the Condors return to The Nest to host the Fresno Falcons on Saturday. Olympic Gold Medal swimmer Jason Lezak will be on hand for Saturday night's game, which will feature the Olympic Jersey Off Our Backs Raffle and Auction, sponsored by Bright House Networks, KUZZ 107.9 and McDonald's. Game-worn Olympic-style specialty jerseys will be auctioned off after the game and everyone in attendance will also have the chance to win one of five to be given away.

Additionally, the Condors will be auctioning off a Jason Lezak Olympics Condors jersey, complete with his name and number on the back, and he will be available for photos and autographs at the Condors Photo Booth, located on the concourse behind section 111.

Saturday is also a Bright House Networks Family Night, during which subscribers receive $7 admission per person by presenting their cable bill at the box office.
