Kowalski and RoadRunners Stop Las Vegas 2-1

Phoenix, AZ - The Las Vegas Wranglers (2-4-1, 5 points) were defeated by the Phoenix RoadRunners (5-2-1, 11 points) 2-1 at the U.S. Airways Center on Monday night. Phoenix goalie Craig Kowalski made 44 saves, ending the Wranglers' nine-game winning streak at U.S Airways Center. RoadRunners left wing Ashton Rome scored twice, as Phoenix improved to 6-24-1 all-time against the Wranglers. Las Vegas defenseman Jeff May scored the team's lone goal. Wranglers' goalie Brent Krahn took the loss in his season debut, stopping 24 Phoenix shots. Las Vegas will host Bakersfield at the Orleans Arena on Friday night at 7:30 pm.

The two teams skated to a scoreless tie in the first eighteen minutes of play. Phoenix ended the drought by scoring the first goal of the night at 18:21. Right wing Ashton Rome carried the puck into the Las Vegas zone and snapped a wrist shot past Wranglers goalie Brent Krahn, beating him on the stick side for his third goal of the year.

In the second period, Las Vegas used a 5-on-3 power play to tie the game 1-1. With two Phoenix defensemen in the penalty box, Las Vegas was able to capitalize just 3:46 into the period. Rookie defenseman fired a one-timer from the right point, through traffic and into the back of the net, scoring his first pro goal in his Las Vegas debut. P.J. Atherton and Chris Neiszner set up the extra-man advantage tally. Phoenix countered to claim the lead after two periods of play. Ashton Rome ripped a one-timer past Brent Krahn at 12:17, giving Phoenix a 2-1 lead after two periods of play. Las Vegas outshot Phoenix 19-5 in the middle period.

Las Vegas returns home to host Bakersfield on Friday, November 7th at 7:30 PM and Phoenix on Saturday, November 8th at 7:30 PM. Dunkin Donuts will hand out coffee cups to the first 2,500 fans to the game on November 7th and November 8th.
