Buffalo Bisons News Release
BUFFALO, NY- The resiliency of the Buffalo Bisons showed through twice late in the game. Luis De Los Santos' pinch hit, walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the 10th inning secured a 10-8 extra innings victory for the Bisons against the Worcester Red Sox Friday night at Sahlen Field.
Addison Barger got the Herd on the board early, as his solo shot to center field would give the Bisons a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
That same inning, Buffalo kept the bats rolling with Tanner Morris' double driving in both Rob Brantly and L.J. Talley, furthering the lead to 3-0.
Matt Peacock opened for the second time this season for the Bisons. In two innings pitched, he recorded two strikeouts and allowed only one hit in the process.
It wouldn't take long for Worcester to strike back with a solid fifth inning. Max Ferguson got things started, as his sacrifice fly to left field allowed Stephen Scott to tag up and score, narrowing the lead, 3-1.
Shortly after, with bases loaded, Nick Sogard's single to left field sent Marcus Wilson home, shortening the Bisons lead to 3-2.
With two men left on base, Wilyer Abreu launched his ninth homer to right center field, sending Ceddanne Rafaela and Sogard to score, as Worcester would take their first lead of the game at 5-3.
After a few scoreless innings, on just the first pitch of the ninth inning, Rob Brantly launched a solo shot to right field, that just stayed in fair territory. His first home run of the year would put the Bisons within one, with the Red Sox leading 5-4.
With two strikes and two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Nathan Lukes kept Buffalo's hopes alive, doubling on a sharp line drive to deep center field. Cameron Eden would safely score, as the Bisons would tie the game at five apiece.
As the game headed to extra innings, Worcester would find themselves up in the top of the tenth inning, thanks to a Daniel Palka home run. Rafael and Abreu scored, giving the Red Sox an 8-5 lead.
With men on first and second in the bottom of the tenth, Buffalo would return the favor thanks to a Barger single to left field. Davis Schneider scored, inching Buffalo closer and minimizing the Red Sox lead, 8-6. Rafael Lantigua drew a pinch hit walk to keep the game alive for Buffalo, as well.
With bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the tenth inning, De Los Santos would cap off Buffalo's amazing night with a walk-off grand slam, giving them a 10-8 win. The young infielder was pinch hitting with the bases loaded, his fourth pinch hit opportunity of the year and first hit in the situation.
Buffalo and Worcester will face off for their fourth game of a six-game series Saturday with Wes Parsons set to take the mound for a scheduled 6:05 p.m. start.
