Wheeling Nailers News Release
CINCINNATI, OH- For the second time this season, the Wheeling Nailers picked up a point in Cincinnati. Unfortunately, they were unable to lock up a second point. Cam Reid broke a 1-1 deadlock at the 21-second mark of overtime, lifting the Cyclones to a 2-1 victory at US Bank Arena.
After a scoreless first period, the Nailers and Cyclones exchanged goals in the latter stages of the middle frame. Cincinnati got the first goal of the night, when Jonathan Hazen created a 2-on-1 rush into the offensive zone. Hazen kept the puck to himself in the right circle, lifting a shot over Patrick Killeen's left shoulder. 37 seconds later, Wheeling tied the score. Daultan Leveille directed a shot on goal from the bottom of the left circle that was stopped by Brian Foster. However, the rebound deflected out to Scott Zurevinski on the right side of the crease. Zurevinski wasted little time in slamming home his second goal in as many nights.
The tied score lasted through the remainder of the second period, as well as the third, as the contest progressed to overtime. Unfortunately for the Nailers, Cincinnati needed just 21 seconds to skate away victorious in the extra session. Cam Reid won an offensive zone draw, and proceeded to snap a shot just underneath the crossbar, giving his club the 2-1 win.
Brian Foster was spectacular in goal for the Cyclones, making 30 saves on 31 shots in the win. Patrick Killeen was equally impressive for the Nailers, but took the overtime loss, after stopping 26 of the 28 shots he faced.
The Nailers will return home on Wednesday night, when they will take on the Reading Royals at 7:00.
