Titans Drop Third Straight - Second to Reading; Fall on Road, 2-1

November 3, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Titans News Release

Reading, PA - For the second time in as many nights the Trenton Titans, proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, got to face their Atlantic Division arch-rival in the Reading Royals. And for the second straight night, the Titans left the ice on the low end of the scoreboard, this time on the road, 2-1.

Philipp Grubauer (17 saves) grabbed just his second win of the season in five games - both against the Titans. He didn't have to make any brilliant saves on the evening, but the former South Carolina (ECHL) Stingrays net minder was his usual, solid self in the victory.

Meanwhile his counterpart Scott Wedgewood (4-3, 24 saves) seemed to have the exact opposite type of game, robbing Royals with seemingly one endless spectacular save after another to keep the Titans (5-4) in the contest.

Royals captain Yannick Tifu disappeared from the Titans view to grab his third goal of the year - and a 1-0 Reading lead - at 4:45 of the first, as Trenton got caught up trying to clear fallen bodies from in front of Wedgewood. They lost sight of the puck - and Tifu - just long enough for him to go behind the net and put one inside the right post past Wedgewood.

Wedgewood was nothing short of unconscious in the second, keeping the Titans in the contest with saves straight out of NHL 13, robbing Tifu on a break and two more Royals point-blank to hold the score until help arrived.

That help came in the form of Andy Bohmbach. Grubauer's right pad save, after a Jason Akeson offensive zone steal and Stephen Schultz blast, settled in the crease on Bohmbach's stick. His finish three minutes into the third tied the game 1-1.

But any Trenton momentum was short lived, as again the Titans lost a Royals player while trying to clear traffic in front. This time it was Alex Berry, cutting in from the left point and taking a feed from David Marshall to beat Wedgewood at 9:23 for the eventual game-winner.

With the win Reading goes to 3-5-0-1, with a two-game win streak in tow. Trenton, after starting the season winning four straight, has lost the last three and four of its last five.

These rivals battle for the third straight time next Friday - this time back at the Sun National Bank Center in Trenton, NJ - at 7:05 pm. Then the two finish their five-game set back in Reading the following Saturday and Sunday.

At The Horn - In their five wins, the Titans scored first and have never trailed. In their four losses, they have not only given up the first goal of the game, but have never led in any of them either.

With a 5-for-5 effort tonight, the Titans have killed off 16 consecutive Royals' power plays.

For just the third time this season the Titans have been held scoreless on the power play (0-for-5). Reading has been the opponent in two of them.
