Ontario Reign News Release
LAS VEGAS, NV - The Ontario Reign, defending Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, held onto their early lead and defeated the Las Vegas Wranglers 5-3 at Orleans Arena before a crowd of 3,543.
The Reign took a commanding start scoring three goals in the first period. It started with Colton Yellow Horn getting on the board with an early goal 1:34 in. The left winger picked up a nice pass from Brodie Sheahan in front of the Wranglers net and squeaked a shot past Joe Fallon. Sheahan earned his second point of the night with a quick goal assisted by Dan DaSilva. On the first power play opportunity of the night, defenseman Chris Huxley netted his first of the season with help from Everett Sheen and Vincent LoVerde.
CJ Stretch beat Fallon up high with a drop pass from Matt Clune. Las Vegas would get on the board with three unanswered goals. Geoff Paukovich first beat Chris Carrozzi to keep the Wranglers from being shut out. Less than three minutes later, Nolan Julseth-White fired a slapshot through traffic deep into the Reign net. Eric Lampe's goal brought the game within one goal as he sent a hard shot past Carrozzi's left side.
With congested penalty boxes due to a chippy second frame, the third period began with Ontario on the power play. Las Vegas took control of the puck peppering Carrozzi with 16 shots. They had a two-man advantage, but couldn't convert that or any of their other power-play chances. With 4:30 left in regulation Mario Lamoureux sent a beautiful shot top shelf on Fallon's blocker side from the slot. Chris Cloud and Jason Beeman each earned a point with the assists.
Carrozzi had a strong performance stopping 27 of 30 shots. Fallon took the loss allowing 5 goals on 26 shots.
