Titans GameDay at Wheeling, March 20 - Game 72 (Final), Away 36

March 30, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Titans News Release

Last Meeting

March 23, 2013 - Trenton's Shane Harper scored two power play goals en route to his second consecutive hat trick (both against Wheeling). Mike Ulrich (1G, 2A) and Jacob Cepis (2G, 4A) also had big games, while Scott Wedgewood made it all stand up with 33 saves in a 7-2 win over the Nailers in the Titans final home game of the year.

Rookie Setting A Standard

Titans Rookie netminder Scott Wedgewood has rewritten the Trenton record books. Last night in Elmira, after tying Scott Stirling's 2000-01 appearance record (48), he set new standards with 1,476 shots (Dave Caruso-1,462, 2009-10), 1,329 saves (Caruso-1,327, 09-10) and 2,741 minutes played (Andrew Allen-2,722, 04-05).

Add to that a 2-1 record (including a SOW) in his first AHL call up to Albany and the New Jersey draft pick has had a pretty memorable first pro season.

Record (Home/Away); Streaks

Wheeling: 31-29-3-873 (21-8-1-5 Home; 4-3-0-3 in last 10). The Nailers are 4-6 in their last 10 overall. Trenton: 31-32-4-470 (13-18-2-2 Road; 4-5-0-1 in last 10). The Titans are 6-4 overall in their last 10.

Series Finale

Wheeling is 6-3-0-1 against Trenton and 4-0-0-1 at home, losing only in an eight-round Shootout (3-2) on March 1. The Titans sport a 4-5-1 mark against the Nailers, with a 1-3-1 record at tough WesBanco. Trenton lost its OT game on January 4 (3-2) after coming back from a 2-0 deficit.

Two of the Titans three shutout losses have come in Wheeling on January 5 (5-0) and March 2 (3-0). Both came on the back end of two-game sets in Wheeling.

A Witness To Progress

Future looks good for Trenton in 2013-14 season

On behalf of the Trenton Titans organization, I want to thank you for your support in this "rebirth" of Titans Hockey. From the fans that support us to all the media outlets that follow us, you have been vital to our success and witness to our progress.

Last year saw just 21 wins and 52 points (team lows), while going 0-6 in shootouts. Entering tonight the Titans bettered those totals by 10 and 18 respectively, while going 3-4 in SO. Plus, their 6-4 OT record is the best since prior to the 2006 season and the wins lead the ECHL.

After a single hat trick last year, the Titans had seven this year, along with four Player of the Week and a Rookie of the Month award winners. Two players (Stephen Schultz-Shane Harper) either matched or chased league scoring history. Jacob Cepis is Top-5 in scoring. Wedgewood rewrote our record books. Plus we have seen the team's longest point streak (Mike Ullrich-9 games), the most goals scored (222) since the 2009-10 season and a playoff push that lasted until the final week and a half.

The Titans have come a long way since last year and hope to go even farther in 2013-14. Thanks again for riding along and we look forward to seeing you next year!
