March 30, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Fort Wayne, IN - The Fort Wayne Komets (33-35-1-3) avenged a loss to the Kalamazoo Wings (34-30-4-4) the night before, as the Komets defeated the K-Wings 4-2 Saturday night at Allen County Memorial Coliseum.
The bitter rivals skated to a scoreless first period that featured plenty of penalties. Kalamazoo, who is the league's least penalized team averaging 13 minutes per game, nearly exceeded that total in the opening period. The K-Wings racked up 12 minutes in penalties on three penalties in the first period, while the Komets were whistled for five penalties for 15 minutes
Snapping a 0-for-18 drought on the power-play the night before, Kalamazoo continue their recent man-advantage success with a goal from Alexandre Grenier (9th) 3:34 into the second period. Grenier will end the season on a three-game point streak.
Thomas Beauregard answered for the Komets 7:09 into the period with his 24th goal of the season. Eleven of Beauregard's goals this year have come against the K-Wings.
Capitalizing on a power-play, Fort Wayne took a 2-1 lead with a blue-line strike from Jamie Milam (5th). Fort Wayne's lead would be short lived, as less than a minute later, Grenier (10th) notched his second of the game knocking in his own rebound 17:12 into the period.
Beauregard put the Komets ahead for good scoring his second of the game midway in the third period.
Putting the game out of reach four minutes later, Matt Syroczynski (10th) scored on a wraparound 15:37 into the period.
The K-Wings will begin their 40th anniversary season in October. Season tickets for the K-Wings 2013-14 season are available now by calling (269) 743-6011 or by stopping by Wings Stadium Ticket Office. Ticket Office hours are Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
