Gladiators Are South Division Champions with 4-1 Win

The Gwinnett Gladiators (43-26--2-1) notched a 4-1 win over the Greenville Road Warriors (36-28-2-6) on Saturday night to capture their second consecutive South Division Championship. With the win, the Gladiators finish in 3rd overall in the ECHL's Eastern Conference and will face the South Carolina Stingrays in the first round of the 2013 Kelly Cup Playoffs. Gwinnett will host South Carolina in Game 1 of the series on Friday, April 5th at the Arena at Gwinnett Center at 7:35 p.m.

Justin Bowers gave Gwinnett a 1-0 lead at 4:27 of the first period as he tucked the puck just inside the far post past Greenville netminder Connor Knapp for the goal. Cody Brookwell and Sacha Guimond notched the assists on the goal for Gwinnett.

Tristin Llewellyn's first professional goal with 5:49 left in the first period gave Gwinnett a 2-0 lead on the Road Warriors. Bowers notched his second point of the night with an assist on the goal while Andy Brant also had a helper as he set up the marker for Gwinnett.

Greenville got on the board 7:08 into the second period. Brendan Connolly collected the marker as he found a loose puck in the slot and slipped it past Gwinnett netminder Louis Domingue for the marker. Danny Hobbs and Chad Ziegler had the assists on the goal for the Road Warriors.

Gwinnett put the game away in the third with a pair of goals just 29 seconds apart. Joey Haddad had the first of the two goals at 14:19 of the third period. Haddad deflected Sacha Guimond's point shot past Knapp for the marker. Brandt added his second assist of the game on the goal.

Casey Pierro-Zabotel rounded out the scoring at 14:50 of the third with his 22nd goal of the season. Pierro-Zabotel found the loose puck along the goal line and jammed it past Knapp to give Gwinnett a 4-1 lead. Cody Brookwell and Ryan Ginand had the assists on the goal for Gwinnett.

The Gladiators are the ECHL Affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League and are members of the ECHL, the Premier "AA" Hockey League and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
