Alaska scored the first goal for the first time in seven games when Spencer Bennett scored 1:30 into the hockey game on a power play rebound from the left circle after Bobby Hughes let a shot go from the right circle. The lead stood throughout the period as both teams registered four shots on goal.
As the physical play began to elevate in the second period, Ontario eventually tabbed the equalizer late in the frame. Former Ace D.J. King redirected a shot from the left point off his skate and through Gerald Coleman at 14:10, evening the score at 1-1. The Reign outshot the Aces 7-5 in the period.
Neither team scored in the third period, despite three Aces power plays and one for the Reign. The game went to overtime, marking the fourth time in seven meetings that Alaska and Ontario have gone past regulation. In the extra session Register beat Coleman on a wrist shot from the high slot to give the Reign the 2-1 win.
Gerald Coleman (23-6-3) made 16 saves on 18 shots in the overtime loss. Mike Condon (3-1) made 18 saves on 19 shots in the victory. The Aces went 1-7 on the power play and the Reign were 0-5. Alaska outshot Ontario 19-18 in the game.
