Titans GameDay at Elmira, March 29 - Game 71 (Away 35)

March 29, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Titans News Release

Last Meeting

March 24, 2013 - Trenton's Shane Harper missed out on ECHL history with a third straight hat trick, but his four points (1G, 3A) with another four by Mike Ullrich (2G, 2 A) and five from Jacob Cepis (2G, 3A) helped pace the Titans to an 8-2 win in Elmira. Brooks Ostergard stopped 34 in the victory.

Why So Offensive?

Over the years Trenton and Elmira have produced numerous games that have gone to the wire - far more 1-and 2-goal games than not. However the last four games in the Empire State have been shootouts and blowouts. Before the last meeting, Elmira had beaten the Titans 7-1 (March 20) and 8-1 (January 27). Trenton started the run with an 8-5 win on January 15. Overall in the other 11 meetings (3 road), the average winning margin was 2 goals, with six 1-goal games (including 1 OT and 2 SO).

Record (Home/Away); Streaks

Elmira: 21-10-2-2 Home (7-3 in last 10). The Jackals have lost their last two and are 5-5 in their last 10 overall. Trenton: 13-17-2-2 Road (4-5-0-1 in last 10). The Titans are on a four-game win streak and are 7-3 overall in their last 10.

Series Finale

Elmira is 9-5-0-1 against Trenton, but just 4-3 at home. The Titans sport a 6-7-1-1 mark against the Jackals, with the inverse record (3-4) at First Arena. All three OT/SO this year have been played in Trenton, where Elmira went 2-0-1 (Trenton 1-1-1).

S-M-Oking

Titans new Number One line burning up the ice and burning out scoreboard lights.

The Trenton Titans have experienced a kind of scoring renaissance over the last four games, taking all four while outscoring their opponents 26-10. While several contributions have been made, the grouping of Shane Harper-Jacob Cepis-Mike Ullrich has been white hot.

Harper and Cepis - Co-Players of the Week ending March 24 - have combined for 30 points (14G, 16A). Adding one game Harper has a 5-game scoring streak (9G, 7A), while Cepis has scored in 4 straight (5G, 10A).

Almost overshadowed is Ullrich, who has a 4-game run of his own (5G, 5A) after getting one of each in a 6-4 win at Reading last night. Even more forgotten are defensemen, but Blake Kessel is THE apple picker on the blue line, with 14 A (and 2G) in 13 games this month, with 3-assist games twice in the last 3 games, while failing to score just twice in that span.

Lucky for the Eastern Conference (and bad for Trenton) the Titans are not playoff bound, because scoreboards would need some major repairs with them.
