
Kalamazoo Defeats Fort Wayne 3-2

Kalamazoo, MI - Posting a season-high tying 50 shots, the Kalamazoo Wings (34-29-4-4) defeated Fort Wayne Komets (32-35-1-3) in front of a Wings Stadium crowd of 4,874 on fan appreciation night.
Nick Schaus (5th) put the Komets ahead early in the first period. Receiving a great pass from Jean-Michel RIzk, Schaus buried it high glove side to give the Komets a 1-0 lead.
Later in the frame, Kalamazoo finally hit pay-dirt on their power play. Taking advantage of a 5-on-3, Yann Sauve (10th) blasted a slap shot home from the slot tying the game 1-1. Aaron Clarke, who earned a secondary assist, extended his point streak to five games on the tally.
The K-Wings got off to a flying start in the second period, Kory Karlander (11th) buried a back-door shot 4:57 into the period off of a beautiful pass from Michael Leone. Also getting credited with an assist was Brandon Martell, both Martell and Leone notched their first career point on the goal.
Getting some breathing room less than two minutes later, John Armstrong (12th) redirected an Alexandre Mallet pass to extend the K-Wings lead to two goals.
Battling back in the third period, Fort Wayne inched back to a single goal with a power-play tally from Eric Giosa (14th) 6:48 into the period.
Martin (31-24-4-3) preserved the victory making 36 saves, including 18 in the final period.
Kalamazoo will conclude the 2012-2013 season tomorrow, Saturday, March 30th with a 7:30 p.m. encounter against Fort Wayne at the Allen County Memorial Coliseum.
