Cyclones Pick Up Two Wins

COMING UP: The Cincinnati Cyclones play three games against North Division opposition this week, as Wheeling comes in on Wednesday night. It is a 'Wet Wednesday' with twelve ounce beers are offered for one dollar allnight. The Cyclones travel to Johnstown this weekend for a pair of games.

BACK ON THE AIRWAVES: The Cyclones are on Rock FM 96.5 on Friday night for the 7pm game at Johnstown. Cincinnati has a 4-1 record on the station and will have a total of 27 regular season games on the station and there could be up to seven Kelly Cup playoff contests on the airwaves. Next week, the Dec. 28 game at Reading will also be carried by the station.

PINK IN THE RINK FRIDAY!: The Cyclones hosted their second annual 'Pink In The Rink' game Friday night (Dec. 14). The game, which was associated with the Patty Brisben Foundation, raised funds and awareness for women's health issues. Pink ice and pink Cyclones jerseys were among the highlights of the evening. All off-ice officials were female--a first in ECHL history. Last Wednesday (Dec. 5), USA Today featured the Cyclones in the hockey notebook for this item.

KIDS CLUB EVENT SUNDAY!: The Cyclones hosted a special event for its Kids Club members on Sunday (Dec. 16), following the game with Johnstown. Kids Club members had a special pizza party with the team and were able to skate on the ice with the club's mascot, Twister.

ABOUT LAST NIGHT...: The Cyclones scored early, and often, in an 8-2 blowout of Johnstown. Rookie defenseman Tyler Howells netted a pair of first period goals and finished with five points on the day (2-3-5), as Jean-Michel Daoust scored an even strength goal, a power play goal and a shorthanded goal(to earn a hat trick in the victory. Center Barret Ehgoetz chipped in with four assists.

FIRST TO THE CENTURY MARK!: The high-powered Cyclones offense collected eight goals on Sunday in the 8-2 triumph over Johnstown. That increased the total goals scored by Cincinnati to 102. Jean-Michel Daoust officially scored Cincinnati's 100th goal at 10:16 of the third period. The Cyclones are averaging a league-best 4.02 goals per game and are on pace to net 289 goals on the season. The club record for goals in a season is 257, set by the 2002-03 edition of the Cyclones.

GETTING CAUGHT SHORTHANDED: The Cyclones established a team record with three shorthanded goals in the win on Sunday. Jean-Michel Daoust, Tyler Howell and Scott Reynolds tallied the markers. Cincinnati scored six of the eight goals in the win on special teams (three more came from the power play units). The six special teams goals in a game is the second-highest mark in club history (the Cyclones lit the lamp with seven power play goals in a 13-2 win over Reading on 12/27/02).

THAT WAS FAST...: The Cyclones picked up a pair of shorthanded goals 37 seconds apart in the first period, when Tyler Howells fired one past the Johnstown netminder at 11:52 and then Scott Reynolds buried the game winner at 12:29 of the opening frame. It was the second-fastest that Cincinnati has ever scored shorthanded goals. Last season, the Cyclones netted a pair of Sam Ftorek shorthanded goals 27 seconds apart--also against Johnstown, at U.S. Bank Arena--on December 15, one year and a day earlier, in a 7-2 romp.

ABOUT SATURDAY NIGHT: The Cyclones dropped a 3-2 decision at Wheeling. Jean-Michel Daoust and Travis Fuller collected the goals in the defeat. Maxime Daigneault stopped 24 shots, while the Cyclones turned loose a season-high 52 shots on Nathan Marsters in the loss.

ABOUT FRIDAY NIGHT: The Cyclones rang up a trio of goals in the first and third periods and raced to a 6-2 win over Johnstown Friday. Matt Syroczynski and Mathieu Aubin paced the offense with a pair of goals each. Barret Ehgoetz chipped in three assists and a +4 rating, while Jean-Michel Daoust netted a goal and a pair of assists. Maxime Daigneault stopped 32 shots in picking up his first triumph as a Cyclone.

ROLLING, ROLLING, ROLLING...: The Cyclones are 13-3-2 in the last 18 games. The only losses the club has suffered in regulation time since Nov. 4 were Thansgiving weekend (Nov. 23-24) to Dayton and Saturday at Wheeling. A pair of seven game unbeaten streaks are included in this stretch. Cincinnati picked up the win on Sunday versus Johnstown to begin a new winning streak.

MOVIN' ON UP: The Cincinnati Cyclones have had eight players recalled to the American Hockey League (AHL) in the last two-plus weeks. Cedrick Desjardins was recalled by Hamilton on Dec. 2. Brian Schmidt and James Sixsmith were taken by MIlwaukee on Dec. 3. David Desharnais was recalled by Hamilton before the Dec. 8 game, while the Bulldogs got Jon Gleed after the game. Ten players have played for the Cyclones and spent time in the AHL this season (Travis Fuller, Mark Matheson and Gerard Miller are the others). Jimmy Bonneau and Cory Urquhart were recalled by Hamilton on Wednesday (Dec. 12), as was Dov Grumet-Morris by Milwaukee.

OPEN HOUSE: The Cyclones are hosting an open house on Tuesday, Dec. 18 from 5:30-8pm. Fans can tour the arena, check out the locker room and take a spin on the ice (be sure to bring your skates!). It will also be one of the last chances for fans to get the Holiday Six-Pack (six tickets and a special T-shirt for $66).

ON DECK: Following Wednesday's 'Wet Wednesday' game this week against Wheeling, the team will not play at U.S. Bank Arena until early in 2008. On Jan. 5-6, the Reading Royals come into the Queen City for a pair of games during NASCAR Weekend. Matt Kenseth will visit Saturday (Jan. 6) and more than 50 different autographed items will be given away during the weekend.

ELEVEN OVER: The Cyclones are eleven games above .500 at 17-6-2 on the year. The club has not been more than eleven games over .500 since the 1995-96 campaign, the inaugural season of the team--in Louisville. That squad reached a club-record 16 games above the break even point late in the year.

CYCLONES COACHES SHOW: The Cyclones Coaches Show airs every Monday on Rock FM 96.5. The show, featuring Head Coach Chuck Weber, takes place every Monday night from 7-8pm and will originate from Jefferson Hall at Newport on the Levee. The show is also carried on the station's website: www.supertalkfm965.com. Tonight, Cyclones forwards Mathieu Aubin and Thomas Beauregard will be the guests.
