Augusta Lynx News Release
Augusta, GA - For the sixth straight week the Augusta Lynx played in at least three games this past week. The Lynx faced off against the Gwinnett Gladiators twice and the Charlotte Checkers once. On Tuesday, the Lynx made their second appearance to The Arena at Gwinnett Center to face the Gladiators. Despite #18 Igor Pohanka's two goals and #35 JP Levasseur's 34 saves, the Lynx fell in a shootout, 3-2. Friday was a rough and tumble affair at the James Brown Arena against the Charlotte Checkers. After a fight-filled first period, the Lynx had to come-from-behind to win 3-2. The Lynx were paced by goals from #9 Louis Goulet, #20 Matt Auffrey and #23 John Laliberte. Saturday, Gwinnett made their first trip of the season to Augusta and the Lynx fell behind early 3-0 and 5-1. However, two goals from #19 Aaron Slattengren, and goals from #20 Matt Auffrey and #16 Chase Watson bought to Lynx to within 5-4, but they couldn't complete the comeback and suffered their third straight one-goal loss to Gwinnett this season.

LYNX WAIVE GOALTENDER NATHAN MARSTERS: This last Wednesday, Head Coach Bob Ferguson announced that the Augusta Lynx have waived goaltender Nathan Marsters. Marsters who is from Grimsby, Ontario, had spent a part of the last three seasons with the Augusta Lynx, however he had spent the last three weeks on the healthy IR list because of the two goaltenders that the Lynx were assigned by the Anaheim Ducks. Marsters last appeared in a game back on November 23, a 6-5 shootout loss in Mississippi against the SeaWolves. The next day goaltender Bobby Gopefert was assigned by Anaheim to the Lynx and join Marsters and JP Levasseur on the roster. Levasseur and Goepfert had played in every game since that time, leaving Marsters as the odd man out with the log-jam in goal. Marsters put up respectable numbers this season with the Lynx, appearing in 11 games and posting a 3.90 goals against average and a save percentage of 88.3%.

The week that was:
Tuesday, December 11, Augusta Lynx 2 @ Gwinnett Gladiators 3 (Shootout)
The Augusta Lynx outplayed the Gwinnett Gladiators on Tuesday night in Gwinnett, but just couldn't get the breaks as they fell in a shootout, 3-2. From the start of the game, the Lynx kept pace with the Glads and goaltender #35 JP Levasseur was outstanding in goal. However, Gwinnett was propelled by the first four power plays of the game and finally broke through with a goal from Mike Vigalante to take a 1-0 lead. However, the Lynx responded nicely as #18 Igor Pohanka collected a rebound in front and beat goaltender Dan Turple to tie the game at 1-1. #21 Bobby Bolt kept the play alive deep in the Glads zone and got the puck to the point to #15 Eric Lundberg, who's shot was stopped, but picked up by Pohanka for the goal. Once the Lynx got on their first power play in the 3rd period, they made the Glads pay with another goal from Pohanka, who tapped home a backdoor pass from #20 Matt Auffrey and another assist from Bolt. The lead would not last however thanks to another power play goal from Vigalante to make it 2-2. The Lynx, who outshot Gwinnett 44-37 for the game, had a chance in overtime to win with a 4 on 3 power play, but couldn't convert as the Gladiators won the game on their 6th shooter in the shootout.
Friday, December 14, Charlotte Checkers 2 @ Augusta Lynx 3
Scoring two goals in the 3rd period, the Lynx came from behind and found a way to win on Friday night at home against the visiting Charlotte Checkers, 3-2. The win moves the Lynx into sole possession of 3rd place for the time being in the South Division. Charlotte had other plans however to start the game, as they jumped on the Lynx from the first shift getting a goal just :20 seconds into the game on a one-timer in front from Chris Capraro to take a 1-0 lead. The 1st period was highlighted by the 19 penalties that were handed out, including 17 in the 2nd half of the period. Those penalties included eight combined fighting majors, including six on one play alone as #6 Will Bodine, #10 Jason Kostadine, and #27 Nick Toneys all dropped the gloves during a skirmish that involved all the skaters on the ice with :15 seconds remaining in the opening period. The scrap seemed to put a charge into the Lynx players and crowd, and the Lynx responded in the 2nd period on the power play with a goal from #9 Louis Goulet who tipped home the third rebound with help from #19 Aaron Slattengren and #25 Adrian Veideman. The lead wouldn't last as Jordan Owens found himself alone in the Lynx slot, slipping home a wide open shot past a sprawling #30 Bobby Goepfert for a 2-1 Checkers lead at the end of two periods. That would be all Goepfert would allow however, and the Lynx responded in quick fashion in the 3rd period. Some nice forechecking by #20 Matt Auffrey put the puck in front for linemate #21 Bobby Bolt to smash home to tie the game at 2-2 less than two minutes in the 3rd period. The Lynx took their first and only lead of the game midway through the 3rd period as #23 John Laliberte tipped home a drive from Veideman and Goulet for the eventual game-winning goal. The Lynx outshot the Checkers 41-24.
Saturday, December 15, Gwinnett Gladiators 5 @ Augusta Lynx 4
An Augusta Lynx comeback fell short on Saturday night as the Gwinnett Gladiators posted their 3rd straight one-goal victory against the Lynx winning on Saturday 5-4. The Glads got on the board quickly in the 1st period just a 1:39 into the game. It marked the second straight night the Lynx have allowed a goal in the first two minutes of the game. The flurry from the Gladiators continued as Derek Nesbitt squeezed one past starting goaltender #35 JP Levasseur to make it 2-0. Another goal that eluded Levasseur made it 3-0 and chased the goaltender from the net in favor of #30 Bobby Gopefert. The move seemed to worked out for the Lynx as #19 Aaron Slattengren scored a shorthanded goal to make it 3-1. However, the comeback stalled thanks to two Gladiators goals to make it 5-1 midway through the 2nd period. They didn't give up however, as Slattengren scored on a wrap-around to make it 5-2 and #20 Matt Auffrey's wrist shot from the slot found its way past Dan Turple for a 5-3 game heading into the 3rd period. #16 Chase Watson scored late in the 3rd period to make it 5-4.
