Bombers Weekly Update

December 17, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Dayton Bombers News Release

WEEKEND SWEEP: The Bombers completed their sweep of the weekend with a 6-5 shootout victory over the Wheeling Nailers in Wheeling. The Bombers went 3-0-0 this week after defenseman Chris Eade netted the game winning goal in the shootout. Eade was the Bombers' eighth shooter of the contest. Forward Bobby Chaumont picked up two goals, while Grant Goeckner-Zoeller and Masahito Nishiwaki also netted goals. The Bombers improved to 3-2-1 against the Nailers this season after starting 0-2-1 against the divisional foe.

BAMBINOS AND BILLY GOATS: The Bombers' "Curse of Hobart" is over as they defeated the Johnstown Chiefs 8-3 on Saturday. This was the first win for the Bombers at Hobart Arena since it became their "alternate home arena". Rookie Matt Beaudoin had a hat trick in the first period and also had two assists, setting career numbers in goals (3) and points (5). Yannick Tifu had his second five-assist night of the season, tying a career high. Also scoring for the Bombers were Britt Dougherty (his first of the season), Taylor Christie, Masahito Nishiwaki, Chanse Fitzpatrick and Mike Berry. Goaltender Jeremy Duchesne stopped 23 of the 26 shots he faced on his way to a 2-0-0 record this week.

HATS OFF TO US: Matt Beaudoin tallied his first career hat trick this weekend. This was the second hat trick for the Bombers this year. Chanse Fitzpatrick recorded the first of the season on November 3 against Trenton on his way to a five-goal night.

BACK IN THE GAME: Forward Chanse Fitzpatrick didn't miss a beat after sitting out the last ten games due to suspension. In his first game back on Saturday, Fitzpatrick recorded a goal and an assist. This was Fitzpatrick's 50th career goal and 100th career point. He added another assist on Sunday at Wheeling.

REMEMBER THIS?: On Friday night the Bombers hosted the Wheeling Nailers at the Nutter Center for their second visit in a week, and for the second consecutive game the Bombers defeated the Nailers, this time 4-2. Peter Flache got the Bombers going in the first off an assist from Ryan Smyth and would lead going into the first intermission. Wheeling tallied the first two goals of the second period, but ECHL points leader Yannick Tifu would net his eighth goal of the season to even the score after two. Taylor Christie scored the eventual game winner from Tifu and Matt Beaudoin on the power play, while Beaudoin added an insurance empty netter in the third.

TERRIFIC TIFU: Center Yannick Tifu is on a fifteen game point streak dating back to November 16, currently the longest streak in the ECHL and a career high. In that time he has recorded 28 points (5G, 23A). Tifu had an eight game assist streak in that span, broken up after his two goal performance on December 1. He now has a six-game assist streak going. However, he's got a long way to go to break the all-time point streak, 38 games, set by Trevor Jobe of Nashville during the 1992-93 season.

LEADERS OF THE PACK: The Bombers continue to dominate the ECHL leader boards in numerous categories. Yannick Tifu leads the league in points (42), assists (34), and consecutive points (15 games). Matt Beaudoin ranks second in the league in points (38) behind Tifu, but leads all rookies by seven points. Beaudoin ranks fourth in goals (17), sixth in assists (21) and third in power play goals (8).

HOLY GOALIE: Bombers goaltender Jeremy Duchesne won his second consecutive game on Saturday as the Bombers downed Johnstown 8-3. In Duchesne's last two games he has compiled a GAA of 2.50 and a save percentage of .898. He improved to 2-1-0 in the month of December with a GAA of 2.68 and a save percentage of .905. Overall, Duchesne is 5-2-1-1 with a 3.09 GAA and .887 save percentage.

SILENT WEAPON: Rookie forward Matt Beaudoin has been silently piecing together an eight-game point streak (his longest of the season) since November 30. During his streak Beaudoin has seven goals and nine assists.

MILE MARKERS: This weekend saw two Bombers reach career milestones. Chanse Fitzpatrick scored his 50th career goal and later his 100th career point. Second-year Bomber Mike Berry tallied his 50th career point.

MILESTONES: Here is a list of Bombers who are the verge of career ECHL milestones:

Mike Berry: 4 games shy of 100 career games played

Taylor Christie: 7 points shy of 50 career points

Peter Flache: 4 assists shy of 50 career assists...3 games shy of 150 career games played
