Gladiators Claim Goalie Jean off Waivers

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that goaltender Ray Jean has been signed to a minor league contract. Jean was claimed off waivers from the Wheeling Nailers after Craig Kowalski was loaned to the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL.

Jean, a native of Randolph, ME, has seen action in just one ECHL game, a 5-1 loss to the Elmira Jackals on December 9.

The 5-foot-seven inch and 175-pound Jean played his college hockey at the University of Maine where he saw limited action before transferring to Bentley College where he compiled a 21-28-5 record with a 3.38 GAA and a .900 PCT in two seasons.

Jean started the 2007-08 season with the Richmond Renegades of the Southern Professional Hockey League before signing on with the Nailers. Jean should be available for Gwinnett as the Gladiators travel to Charlotte to take on the Checkers at 7:05pm Thursday night.

Celebrating its 20th Anniversary as the Premier 'AA' Hockey League in 2007-08, the ECHL began in 1988-89 with five teams in three states and has grown to be a coast-to-coast league that has 25 teams in 17 states and British Columbia in 2007-08. The 25 teams includes the Mississippi (Biloxi) Sea Wolves, who return after missing two seasons in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and the expansion Elmira (N.Y.) Jackals. The ECHL will play 900 games beginning Oct. 18 and concluding Apr. 5.
