Las Vegas Continues Torrid Pace

Sweeping its three-game series at Utah, Las Vegas improved to 19-2-2 and continues to lead the ECHL with a winning percentage of .870 while remaining atop the National Conference with 40 points.



The Wranglers are 15-0-2 in their last 17 games and have lost only two times in their last 36 regular season games, Oct. 27 at Victoria and Nov. 2 against Utah. Las Vegas set an ECHL record with 17 consecutive regular season wins from Mar. 10-Oct. 26 and won the Brabham Cup as the regular season point champion in 2006-07 with 106 points (53-13-6) after finishing second in 2005-06 with 112 points (53-13-6) which is the third-highest point total in ECHL history.



After hosting Phoenix in the fifth-annual 'Midnight Madness' game on Monday/Tuesday, the Wranglers travel to Idaho for games on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Las Vegas is 2-0-1 against Idaho this season and 20-10-9 all-time against the Steelheads. Idaho swept a three-game series against Phoenix to improve to 10-8-7 and move into third place in the West Division and fifth in the conference.



Closing out a five-game road trip with back-to-back wins, Victoria improved to 17-7-0 to remain in first place in the West Division and second in the conference with 34 points. The Salmon Kings, who have won a team record and league season-high 10 consecutive home games, will host Alaska on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. It will be a rematch of the conference quarterfinals from the 2007 Kelly Cup Playoffs which the Aces won in six games, including a pair of victories at Victoria.



Fresno has won a team record five straight road games and is second in the Pacific Division with 29 points (13-7-3). The Falcons, who had a seven-game winning streak end on Dec. 16, will travel to Utah on Tuesday and Wednesday. Fresno is 1-1-0 this season against Utah and 8-6-0 all-time against the Grizzlies.



Gladiators On Seven-Game Winning Streak, South Heats Up



Gwinnett went 4-0-0 last week to extend its winning streak to seven games, which is the third-longest in team history, and improve to 18-5-1 and 37 points, keeping pace with South Division leader Texas.



The Gladiators, who had a nine-game winning streak from Jan. 21-Feb. 10, 2006 and an eight-game streak from Feb. 25-Mar. 12, 2006, travel to Charlotte on Thursday before hosting Gwinnett on Saturday. Gwinnett leads the season series with Charlotte 3-0-0 and is 24-9-3 all-time against the Checkers, and is 2-0-0 this season against Pensacola and 22-5-2 all-time against the Ice Pilots.



Extending its winning streak to six games with a three-game sweep at Florida, Texas improved to 20-2-4 to lead the ECHL and the South Division with 44 points. The Wildcatters, who have not lost in regulation since Nov. 17 against Elmira, are 11-0-3 in their last 14 games. Texas is 7-0-3 in its last 10 one-goal games, including 2-0 in overtime and 1-3 in shootouts, and 11-0-4 overall in one-goal games, including 2-0 in overtime and 3-4 in shootouts. The Wildcatters, who have won their last three home games, will host Mississippi on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Texas is 2-0-0 against Mississippi this season and 6-20-2 all-time against the Sea Wolves.



Mississippi, which is 3-1-1 in its last five road games, has won the last 10 meetings at Texas and is 11-1-0 all-time on the road against the Wildcatters with the only loss coming on Dec. 28, 2003. The Sea Wolves, who are 22-5-1 all-time against the Wildcatters, are 6-3-1 in their last 10 games to improve to 8-15-2 and is three points behind seventh-place Charlotte (9-8-3) and six points behind sixth-place Columbia (9-11-6).



South Carolina has a season-high six-game winning streak and is in fifth place with 27 points (13-9-1), three points behind Florida and four points behind Augusta. The Stingrays, who return to the ice for the first time since Dec. 9, will host Pensacola on Wednesday and Friday and Charlotte on Saturday. South Carolina is 2-0-0 against Pensacola this season and 21-8-2 all-time against the Ice Pilots and 54-41-16 all-time against Charlotte, including 1-2-0 this year.



Dayton's Tifu On ECHL Season-High 15-Game Scoring Streak



Registering an assist at Wheeling on Dec. 16, Yannick Tifu of Dayton extended his scoring streak to a career-best and ECHL season-high 15 games (5g-23a).



Tifu, who also has a six-game assist streak (11a), leads the league with 34 assists and 42 points in 25 games while teammate Matt Beaudoin is second with 38 points and fourth with 17 goals in 25 games.



During the streak, Tifu has 10 games with multiple points, six with multiple assists and one with two goals. He had five assists and five points against Johnstown on Dec. 15, tying his career bests for assists and points set on Nov. 3 against Trenton.



For the season he has 14 games with multiple points, nine games with multiple assists and two games with two goals. In his first season in the ECHL in 2006-07, he had 20 games with multiple points, 14 games with multiple assists and three games with two goals.



The 23 year old has played 103 regular season ECHL games and is averaging 1.26 points per regular season game (130 points in 103 games) and 0.91 assists per game.



Tifu finished fourth in voting for ECHL Most Valuable Player last season after finishing third in the ECHL with 88 points and fourth with 60 assists in 78 games. He led the Bombers with 26 goals, 50 assists and 76 points in 65 games after being acquired from Phoenix in exchange for forward Dan Baum on Nov. 17, 2006.



Wranglers' Ferraro Brothers Combine For ECHL Record Nine Points



Chris Ferraro (2g-3a) and Peter Ferraro (0g-4a) of the Las Vegas Wranglers combined for nine points in a 7-5 win at Utah on Dec. 15, breaking the league record for most points in a game by brothers.



The Ferraro twins surpassed the seven points scored by Rob Valicevic (2g-2a) and Chris Valicevic (1g-2a) of the Louisiana IceGators in a 7-5 win against Jackson on Feb. 16, 1996.



The Ferraros have combined for 56 points (19g-37a) and Peter leads the team with 29 points while Chris is second with 27 points. Peter is tied for the team lead in goals and second in assists, plus-minus rating (+12), power-play goals (4) and game-winning goals while Chris is first in assists and plus-minus rating (+15) and second in power-play goals (4).



Victoria has two sets of brothers with Ash and Wes Goldie and Derek and Jordan Krestanovich. The Goldie brothers have combined for 44 points with Ash leading the team with 28 points (15g-13a) and Wes adding 16 points (9g-7a) while the Krestanovich brothers have 27 points together as Jordan has 23 points (7g-16a) and Derek has four points (2g-2a).



The Valicevic brothers played together for Louisiana in 1995-96 and 1996-97 and had 234 points (91g-143a) and 290 penalty minutes in 208 regular season games and 27 points (9g-18a) and 36 penalty minutes in 27 postseason games. Older brother Chris, a four-time ECHL Defenseman of the Year and a member of the inaugural ECHL Hall of Fame Class being inducted in January, had 163 points (42g-121a) and 184 penalty minutes in 140 regular season games and 22 points (7g-15a) and 28 penalty minutes in 22 postseason games. Younger brother Rob, who played six seasons in the National Hockey League with Dallas, Los Angeles and Nashville, had 71 points (49g-22a) and 106 penalty minutes in 68 regular season games and five points (2g-3a) and eight penalty minutes in five postseason games.



Dayton, Cincinnati Rising In North



Entering the week with a three-game winning streak and going 4-0-1 in the last five games, Dayton is in fourth place in the North Division with 30 points (12-7-6), nine points ahead of Johnstown and Wheeling, who are tied for fifth place, and two points behind third-place Reading (15-9-2).



The Bombers travel to Trenton on Friday and Reading on Saturday. Dayton is 2-0-1 in the season series and 19-33-6 all-time against the Devils, and 1-0-2 in the season series and 15-25-3 all-time against the Royals.



Yannick Tifu (4g-11a) and Matt Beaudoin (6g-9a) each have 15 points in the last seven games and the duo are first with 42 points and second with 38 points, respectively, in the ECHL scoring race. Tifu tied his career best and his season high with five assists and five points in the Bombers 8-3 win over Johnstown on Dec. 15. He has a 15-game point streak (5g-23a), which is a career best as well as the longest in the league this season. Beaudoin recorded his first career hat trick against Johnstown and he has scored in each of his last eight games (7g-9a).



Elmira enters the week on a four-game winning streak and has registered a point in each of its last six games. The Jackals, who have 38 points (18-6-2) for a two-point lead over second-place Cincinnati (17-6-2), travel to Wheeling on Friday and Saturday. Elmira has won the first two meetings and is 1-0-0 at home and 1-0-0 on the road against the Nailers.



Cincinnati, which is 13-3-2 in their last 18 games, hosts Wheeling on Wednesday before traveling to Johnstown on Friday and Saturday. The Cyclones lost 3-2 at Wheeling on Dec. 15 and are 2-1-0 in the season series and 15-23-4 all-time against the Nailers. Cincinnati is 1-0-0 at Johnstown and 3-0-0 in the season series, improving to 22-11-4 all-time against the Chiefs.



Jean-Michel Daoust is on a four-game goal streak (6g) and he has scored 29 points (18g-11a) in his last 18 games while Barret Ehgoetz has 13 points (1g-12a) in seven games in December. Rookie defenseman Tyler Howells had career bests with three assists and five points while tying his career high with two goals in an 8-3 win against Johnstown on Dec. 16.



Reading, which has won its last four home games and is 9-4-2 in the last 15 games, will host Dayton on Saturday. The Royals are 1-0-0 at home and 2-1-0 overall against the Bombers this season and 28-15-0 all-time against Dayton.
