Condors Pick Up Two Points with Win against Stockton

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors suited up for three games last week, including a 5-3 victory over the Stockton Thunder on the road Friday. They improved to 2-0 against their valley rivals this season, and face off against Stockton again this week.

The Condors are 6-15-5 on the season, in 4th place in the Pacific Division, five points behind the 3rd place Stockton Thunder. The Condors will take on the Thunder in Stockton this Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Fresno 6 vs. CONDORS 2

Attendance: 3,641

D Kevin Truelson and F Todd Griffith netted goals for the Condors in the second and third periods, respectively, but Bakersfield could not catch up after the Falcons took a five-goal lead in the first period. G Jeff Pietrasiak made his first start as a Condor and stopped 12 shots in the opening frame, but was replaced by G Yutaka Fukufuji after the first. Fukufuji went on to block 10 of the 11 shots he faced. Tempers flared on both sides, leading to 195 total penalty minutes in the game, including 164 penalty minutes in the third period alone.

Friday, Dec. 14:

CONDORS 5 @ Stockton 3

Stockton struck first in the opening frame, but Bakersfield D Steven Later and C Tim Konsorada notched back-to-back goals to give the Condors the 2-1 advantage after one. After the Thunder tied the game early in the second, the Condors again rattled off consecutive tallies, this time coming from D Joe Dustin and F Andrew Ianiero, to go up 4-2 midway through the third. Stockton pulled within one, but LW Evan Kotsopoulos put the game out of reach with an empty-net goal in the final minute of the third.

Saturday, Dec. 15:

Victoria 3 vs. CONDORS 2

Attendance: 5,528

The Salmon Kings netted two goals early in the first before Condors C Tim Konsorada got Bakersfield on the board with his 14th of the year late in the opening stanza. After Victoria took a 3-1 lead in the first two minutes of the second, G Yutaka Fukufuji settled in and kept the Salmon Kings from scoring again for the rest of the game. F Andrew Ianiero brought Bakersfield within a goal with his seventh tally of the year at 16:35 of the third.

PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES:

The Condors racked up 120 penalty minutes on Dec. 12 against the Fresno Falcons, breaking the previous single-game record of 116 penalty minutes, set on Dec. 4, 1999 against the Anchorage Aces.

F Todd Griffith is currently on a nine-game point streak, with 10 points (6g, 4a) during the streak.

G Yutaka Fukufuji stopped 71 of the 78 shots he faced in three games last week.

D Joe Dustin had a four- game point streak (1g, 3a) end Saturday night.

D Steven Later was activated from the 30-day IR on Dec. 14, and has three points (1g, 2a) in two games since returning to the lineup.

D David Kudelka was placed on the 3-day IR on Dec. 14, and is eligible to be activated.

F Sean Venedam remains on the 7-day IR, but he is eligible to be activated.

PROMOTIONAL NOTES:

The Condors take the road on Friday, Dec. 21 to face off against the Stockton Thunder with game time slated for 7:30 p.m. Bakersfield will then head down to Phoenix for a match-up against the RoadRunners on Thursday, Dec. 27 before coming home to host the Thunder at The Nest on Saturday, Dec. 29.

The game on Dec. 29 will be the KGET-TV 17 and Quad Knopf Paul Rosebush Bronze Statue Giveaway and #17 jersey retirement. The first 2,000 fans 17 & older will receive a bronze statue of Condor great Paul Rosebush and his #17 jersey will be raised to the rafters in a special ceremony as well. Rosebush is the Condors all-time leader in games played with 416, is third all-time with 239 points and 129 goals, first with 20 game-winning goals and first with 900 penalty minutes. Doors open at 7 p.m., puck drops at 8 p.m.

The Condors close out 2007 by hosting the Las Vegas Wranglers on Sunday, Dec. 30. Everyone in attendance will receive a Condors Cheer Sign, courtesy of the Bakersfield Californian, KERN 1410 AM and Lennar Homes. Doors open at 5 p.m., puck drops at 6 p.m.

After the game on Dec. 30, there will be a Season Ticket Holders Skate with the Condors, during which all season ticket holders are invited to take the ice with the team immediately following the final buzzer (limited skate rental available for $5.00).

Individual game tickets are now on sale and may be purchased through the Rabobank Arena Box Office, which is open from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturday with extended hours on game days.

The box office will close at noon on Thursday, Dec. 20, and will be closed from Dec. 23 - Dec 25 and Dec. 31 - Jan. 1. In addition, the box office will be open from noon - 7 p.m. on Dec. 30 for the Condors game at 6 p.m. Other than those dates, the box office will maintain normal hours throughout the holiday season.
