Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho--The Idaho Steelheads announced that goaltender Steve Silverthorn has been recalled to its American Hockey League affiliate, Iowa Stars, effective today and former Steelheads goaltender Blair Allison is expected to be on the bench Wednesday.

Silverthorn, who is signed to an AHL contract, will return to Iowa after being loaned to Idaho on October 31st. The 6-2 goalie started two games for the Stars this season where he had a .833 save percentage. In 13 games with the Steelheads, Silverthorn has a .891 save percentage and 3.01 goals-against average with one assist. Silverthorn was named the ECHL'S Kelly Cup Playoff MVP in 2007, helping Idaho claim the championship last season.

Head Coach Derek Laxdal will sign Blair Allison Wednesday to serve as an emergency back up goaltender, behind Kellen Briggs. Allison played three seasons with the Steelheads from 2001-02 through the 2003-04 campaign. He signed on as emergency back up goaltender for two games each in 2004-05, and again last season following Silverthorn's call up to Iowa. On January 19th, 2007 he saw action against Phoenix and earned the win allowing no goals on 14 shots after back up goalie John Daigneau had to leave the game due to injury. He started the game the following night and recorded a loss allowing five goals and making 16 saves. The 35-year-old holds several Steelheads goaltender records including most games played (131), most wins (81) and most saves (2,996).

Idaho will host the Las Vegas Wranglers at Qwest Arena this week for the first time since upsetting them in a semifinals victory last spring. The three-game holiday series begins Wednesday night.

Tickets are available for Idaho's three-game series against the Las Vegas Wranglers at idahosteelheads.com using the print-at-home feature or at the Qwest Arena box office (331-TIXS).
