THIRSTY THURSDAY / DUMB AND DUMBER NIGHT
Tonight's Matchup: Despite being both divisional and geographical rivals, the Cyclones and Nailers will only meet four times during the regular season. The first of which is tonight at U.S. Bank Arena as Cincinnati continues its busy weekend on the ice.Since the 2006-07 season, the Cyclones have compiled a 50-35-0-3 record against the Nailers.
Tonight's Promotion: Frozen Night - We pay homage to the wildly popular animated film, complete with an appearance from some princess friends, a kids singalong, and more!
Scouting the Nailers: Clark Donatelli's club, like Cincinnati, will continue a three-in-three weekend after dropping a 6-3 decision last night in Evansville. With Carter Rowney currently on recall in the AHL, forward Riley Brace is the team's active leader on offense with nine points (3g, 6a) in six games this season.Last year's Nailers scoring leader, Sahir Gill, has also been a consistent offensive threat - notching five tallies in his 2014-15 campaign thus far.Between the pipes, Wheeling has been led by rookie Franky Palazzese; the former OHL'er has gone 3-3-0-0 with an 3.36 goals-against average.Fellow first-year backstop Jeff Wyer has seen just a single period of action, making three saves on four shots.
Last Time Out: Byron Froese's shorthanded strike in the third period proved to be the game-winner as the Cyclones defeated the Fuel by a 3-1 final score in front of 3,037 at U.S. Bank Arena last night.Rob Madore needed to make just 16 saves to earn his second win of the season.
Starting Strong: Through their five games, the Cyclones have come out of the gate with their best offense in the first period.Of their 17 goals, six of them have come in the first period. The success in this department has contributed to the final outcome; they are 3-0 in games where they score the first goal.
