November 8, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Elmira Jackals News Release
KALAMAZOO, MI - November 8, 2014 - The Elmira Jackals, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and AHL's Rochester Americans, look to split the season series in their weekend finale against the Kalamazoo Wings.
WHO: Elmira Jackals - Buffalo/NHL & Rochester/AHL (5-3-1) at Kalamazoo Wings - Vancouver and Columbus/NHL & Utica, Springfield and Chicago/AHL (5-2-1)
WHAT: Jackals Away Game #5. Tonight marks the final meeting between the Elmira Jackals and the Kalamazoo Wings. The Wings lead the season series 2-1-0.
WHEN: 7:30 p.m EST
WHERE: Wings Stadium - 3620 Vanrick Drive Kalamazoo, MI 49001
Tonight marks the final of four meetings this season between the Jackals and the Wings. Elmira won the first matchup this season 6-2 on its Opening Night. Kalamazoo exacted revenge the next night with a road win by the same score as the night before. Last night the Jackals comeback bid fell short as Alex Mallet deposited a rebound with 20 seconds remaining to propel the Wings to a 3-2 win. Steven Shamanski tied the game at 9:01 of the third period with a backhand wraparound effort, but their surge was nullified by Mallet's game-winner. Taylor Stefishen notched his third goal of the season in the first period and Brayden Irwin extended his point streak (six goals, eight assists) to nine games to open the season. Thomas Nesbitt added two assists last night. Sam Marotta stopped 43 of 46 shots faced in his second pro start but was handed the hard-fought loss.
Taylor Stefishen is tied for the league-lead among rookies with eight assists and ranks second among first-year players with 10 points. He is also tied for the league-lead among rookies with two power-play goals.
Steven Shamanski added a goal last night and has three points (one goal, two assists) in two games on the current road trip.
