Evansville IceMen News Release
TOLEDO, Ohio- The Evansville IceMen, presented by Coors Light, could not figure out the Toledo Walleye defense as they were shutout by a score of 5-0 at the Huntington Center. With the loss Evansville drops to 4-2-0-1 (9 points). Toledo (5-2-0-0, 10 points) leapfrogs the IceMen into third place in the North Division.
Toledo got on the board in the first as Dane Walters took the puck towards the goal line and beat a screened Chris Driedger on a low angle shot. The Walleye would add to their lead later in the first as Tyler Barnes scored on a slapshot. Marek Tvrdon and Troy Schwab's assists gave the Walleye a 2-0 lead going into the first intermission.
In the second period, Schwab found the back of the net as he put the Walleye up 3-0 with his first of the season. Tvrdon added his second helper of the night as Toledo held a three goal lead after two.
The Walleye added two goals off the tape of Kyle Bonis and Tvrdon in third period to claim a 5-0 win on home ice. Evansville mustered just 14 shots at Jeff Lerg, who earned the shutout and improved to 3-1.
Driedger made 31 saves after making 39 the night before in Evansville's win over Wheeling. The 20-year-old netminder fell to 1-1-0-1 on the season.
