Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE - Ty Rimmer made 27 saves and the Bakersfield Condors used a pair of goals in the second to hold off the Alaska Aces, 4-2 before 3,956 fans at Sullivan Arena on Friday.
Olivier Archambault (1g-1a) and Greg Wolfe contributed with the Aces goals, who nearly rallied from a 3-1 deficit in similar fashion to the third period on Wednesday. Goaltender Andy Iles, making his first appearance since Oct. 22, made 30 saves while stopping 17 shots in the opening period.
Josh Winquist's goal on a two-man advantage lifted Bakersfield to a 1-0 lead at 3:11, on his wide-open wrister from the left circle. But Archambault answered for his third goal of the season, after Kellen Jones coughed up the puck in the Bakersfield zone. Tim Coffman stripped the Condor forward and found Archambault open at the net, who beat Rimmer to the blocker side.
Brendan Connolly nearly gave the Aces the lead on a breakaway, after catching a nifty shovel pass by newcomer Colten Hayes out of the Aces zone. But Rimmer turned Connolly away with the right pad, and Bakersfield eventually took the lead on Kellen Jones' second goal of the season at 4:24 of the second period.
Jones took a feed from his twin brother, Connor and rifled a shot over Iles' glove from the slot.
Sebastien Sylvestre ripped his second goal of the season from nearly the same position at 9:35, and the Condors took a 3-1 lead into the third period.
The Aces battled through two minor penalties to stay within reach and drew to within a goal on Wolfe's fourth goal of the season with 3:17 left in regulation, finishing Quinn Sproule's feed at the left circle. Iles was pulled for the extra attacker with over a minute in regulation, but were finished on Jordan Kremyr's empty netter with four seconds left.
