Evansville IceMen News Release

Evansville, Ind. - Myles Bell lit the lamp three times as the Evansville IceMen, presented by Coors Light, overpowered the Wheeling Nailers for a 6-3 win in front of 4,772 fans at the Ford Center. Evansville scored a season high six-goals, to improve to 4-1-0-1 (9 points), while Wheeling drops to 3-3-0-0 (6 points).

Wheeling struck first behind a shooting barrage at Chris Dreidger. On a breakaway, Riley Brace found Matia Marcantuoni. Driedger denied Marcantuoni's initial shot, but the Nailer got to his own rebound and put it in to give Wheeling a 1-0 lead.

The Nailers lead lasted only three minutes. Matt Lowry won a faceoff back to Troy Rutkowski who fired a shot that deflected off of Peter Sakaris and into the back of the net. Sakaris' first goal of the season knotted the game at one midway through the first period.

Just 45 seconds later the IceMen took control. Patrick Kennedy stole the puck from Dave Makowski. The turnover gave the IceMen a 2-on-1 breakaway . Kennedy found Myles Bell who slammed it home to give the IceMen a 2-1 lead.

With less than a minute remaining in the first period, Lowry made a nice backhanded pass from behind the net that found a hard charging Kevin Harvey. Harvey smoked a shot past Franky Palazzese to net his second goal of the season and put the IceMen up 3-1 heading into the first intermission. Harvey also duked it out with Patrick McGrath in the first of three fights in the game.

In the second period, Evansville added to its lead. Brandon Wong slapped a shot, but Palazzese made the save. However, the rebound found the stick of Kale Kerbashian, who fired in his fourth goal of the season to make it a 4-1 game.

As the second period came to a close, a duel broke out between Wong and Ben Blood. Both men started the period in the sin bin. Wong sat five minutes, while Blood sat an additional 10 minutes for continuing the altercation.

Just 30 seconds into the third period, Jarret Lukin made a cross crease pass that found the tape of Bell who sounded the horn to push the Evansville lead to four goals. Guy Lepine added an assist on Bell's second of the night.

Not to be outdone, the combination of Brace and Marcantuoni scored for the second time. Marcantuoni lit the lamp to cut the lead to 5-2.

With under three minutes to go in the game, Sakaris surged into the zone and dished the puck over to Bell who torched another one into the net to complete his first professional hat trick. Lukin picked up his second assist of the game as he increased his point streak to three games.

Wong and Kennedy also have three game point streaks. Lowry has built a four game point streak with his two assist performance.

Marcantuoni completed his hat-trick with under a minute to go in regulation as he put in a feed from Blood. The Nailer's hat trick was not enough as the IceMen rolled to a 6-3 win.

Chris Driedger earned his first win in an IceMen uniform by stopping 39 of the 42 shots he faced. He moved to 1-0-0-1 in two starts this season. Palazzese drops to 3-3 making 24 saves on 30 IceMen shots.

Evansville will play just their second road game of the year tomorrow as they travel to Toledo to take on fellow North Division foe, the Toledo Walleye. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:15 central time. Catch all the action at the official IceMen watch party at Bar Louie.
